mandalee22 is trying to recover..

my story 2 months ago

Ok. So i had gotten strep throat every year since i was 5. Until a two years ago it stopped. And this year i got it, really bad. I went to the doctor and they told me i had strep, and i was like, okay no big deal. I got my antibiotics (zithromax -allergic to amox. products). This didn’t help at all, it only got worse. So i got on a different antibiotic, ceuphroxime(or something like that) this was doing nothing. I went to the hospital twice, and they told me i also had a viral infection which isn’t curable with medication. So i went to the clinic to get my referral to see and ENT ( i live in a small town.) I went and seen him and he said that i needed to get them out right away, even though i was still infected. Just four days after seeing him i had my surgery, which was on Tuesday (3 days ago). Surgery was nothing i don’t even know what went on because of the anesthetic. Waking up in the recovery room i had an oxygen mask on and that really scared me and i started crying, a nurse reassured me that i was okay. She took it off and i felt as if i couldn’t breathe and she said my oxygen level was going down so she put it on for a little longer and then took it off again. She told me i needed to take a few deep breaths every couple minutes. After that i was fine. I returned to my hospital room to find my parents. At this point i felt fine, i could drink and eat popsicles very well. The next day wasn’t bad either since i was used to eating popsicles and only having fluids. Day 3 was the worst i spit up things all day, didn’t want to drink anything, and eventually became dehydrated. In my spit there was also some blood so my mom called my ENT and he said gargle ice chips and stop the bleeding and if it doesn’t stop go to the ER. i then gargled ice chips and the bleeding stopped for a little while but continued so i went to the ER. I hate that place, the doctor was so snotty. She told me you are going to bleed after having surgery, and i was really upset. They ended up putting an IV in me ( i’m so used to those by now) because of my dehydration. They drew some blood twice for testing and gave me morphine for my pain ( which i now have for home) i spent the night in that terrible place. I got not one minute of sleep there. Day 4 (yesterday) i went home from the hospital around 11 AM… i went home and i slept alllll day. And my mom told me that i had to get liquids in me. So i tried drinking stuff and everything makes me cough, it really sucks.

This all started on August 6th and i have been pretty much bed rested since. Recently (this week) i lost 14 pounds. My stomach is constantly jumbled or achy. I’m on morphine, but that does nothing for the inside of me. I have regular back, neck, and muscle aches.

My Advice:

Drink fluids no matter how bad it hurts.
Don’t let yourself get dehydrated.
Don’t talk a lot.
Always have someone by you.

I’m not sure if this is worth it because i’m not fully recovered.

isle212 is taking great strides!

Long overdue 3 months ago

I’m still in a lot of pain, but it already feels so much better in the back of my throat!

They almost had to ventilate me due to some breathing problems. I also had some problems with vomit. But after about 3 hours in the ICU I made it back to recovery. I’m doing SO much better!!

I had my tonisils removed on thursday afternoon (its now sunday night/early monday morning). i must admit after reading everyones experiances online i was pretty freaked out. but thank god it hasnt been as bad as what i was reading. luckly ive dealt with little to no consistant pain. swallowing and drinking is another thing, but if im not using my throat i have almost no pain. when swallowing id say the paid is about 4 times the worst soar throat you’ve ever had. its a choir to stay hydrated. the vicodin helps alittle. the weird thing is its gotten slightly more soar each day since the surgery.

Right now 9 months ago

Does one have to have severe tonsil problem for them to be taken out?
My tonsils are very easily infected..but it’s not that extreme…in fact they are infected right now.
What are the factors.symptoms that are considered suitable for the procedure?

still recovering from a tonsillectomy- so far- the pain, sleepless nights, and unable to eat/drink- is not worth it, ask me again when I am fully healed.

I’ve been dealing with tons of tonsil issues this year! I had to take an incomplete in one class and I’m pretty bitter about it. I ALWAYS test negative for strep too. My first bout was in 2003 and it seems to be coming back with a vengeance this year. I don’t understand, but I should see a throat specialist soon. I know it’ll hurt really bad but I will definitely request some stronger med’s than Tylenol 3!!

Did it 3 hours ago 1 year ago

I finally did it a few hours ago. The anaestetic was very pleasant. I woke up 15 minutes later and was unable to swallow. Otherwise ok.

I texted my wife to say I was ok, read the newspaper and then took a taxi home. My father was with me, and we only stayed 45 minutes after I woke up.

I have had my first portion of ice, and I feel much better than I thought I would. My throut is a bit swollen, and feels narrow, but it’s no worse than a sore throut.

It’s expected that pain will increase the first week, I’ll keep you posted.

Bogdana is happy.

when i was 21 i had them removed 1 year ago

in 2001 and it was reeeaaally reeeeally painful, and the doctor only gave me wimpy tylenol 3, and i had to go out of state the next day after surgery, so by the time i realized the tylenol 3 wasn’t cutting it, i couldn’t get anything stronger because i was in another state with another set of pharmaceutical rules and regulations.
Despite ODing on tylenol 3 (to no avail- i was still in major pain), and being constipated and losing ten pounds, it was still COMPLETELY worth it. No more tonsilitis, and only ONE case of strep throat in nearly seven years! Down from 4-8 bouts of tonsilitis and 2-4 strep throat infections a year!

abort 1 year ago

I don’t want them out anymore, I changed my mind. Apparently it’s a very painful surgery and I haven’t been getting sick as much lately anyway.

Had to postpone 1 year ago

I had do call off the procedure, I’ll do it some time early next year.
