They seem to have a pretty good range of vegan toiletries, especially toothpaste which I am quite excited about (I just hope it doesn’t taste gross). I’m going to ask someone to drive me there and I’ll do a bit more investigating. I’m going to look into other health stores in the area, too.

I found some cruelty free deoderant today! Thank you, Innoxa.
I also bought some agar agar, which was kind of expensive considering it’s a thickener, but now I can actually attempt recipes with gelatine in them.
Conditioner is also taken care of, thanks to Natures Organics. Their Cruelty Free symbol is SO CUTE.
Now I just have to find some shampoo – this would be easy, but I really need scalp care. Toothpaste, too.
i’m trying to extend this – really, i’m taking more and more steps towards being a vegan. i know it’s not something i’m ready for yet. it takes a lot of research, and i don’t want any extra pressure placed on my parents. but so far, i (almost) have the beauty/hygeine products under control – next to conquer is clothes. SO MUCH LEATHER. WHY? it makes me sad. but yes. there are also steps i have to take in regards to food. because my decision to become a vegetarian was more a gradual hazing out of meat because i didn’t like it, i didn’t really look into it much. but now that it’s equally as much of an ethical decision as a personal one, there are things i have to consider. i’ve found a good list of vegan alcohol (most hard liquor, it seems – but i am very pleased about smirnoff and absolut vodka) and i’m trying to completely phase out non-vegetarian cheese (almost there, although i really wish i lived in melbourne. things would be so much easier) until i can take the bigger step of cutting it out altogether.
at the moment maybe 75% of my cosmetics and toiletries are cruelty free – i get my face washes/scrubs, body washes, moisturisers, make up and henna dye from australis, innoxa, lush, and natio. unfortunately though, i’m having real trouble finding cruelty free, quality deoderant, shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste, which makes me sad, because they’re such everyday products.
but yes, to take further steps with this, i’ve just compiled a list based on cruelty free australia’s accredited list of companies – it’s one of the more selective lists, in that, for example, it won’t accredit the body shop because its parent company (l’oreal) doesn’t comply to its standards (this kind of pisses me off, because i used to really like the body shop, but l’oreal are bastards, so blah). this list is going in my wallet. speaking of which, pretty much need to find a new, non-leather wallet. meep.
