Preferably Soccer or something close to that
How I did it: I did it by playing college basketball for four years and through that process, studying the game. The actual job was just luck - i was looking around one day on Monster and found this assistant coaching posting, and within three days I had a job! it was awesome.
Lessons & tips: If you didn't play at the level you want to coach at, just study the game. Coaching is a hard job and often thankless but the team is why you do it. not personal glory. It is also very hierarchical at the college level so be ready to face that head on and hold fast to your personal values.
Resources: Just check out the local job listings regularly. You'd be surprised how often they start looking for coaches, usually 6 months before and all the way up to the season starting.

I want to be earning an income from coaching within 2 years. I want to help people realize their full potential.
I want to start coach training by the end of 2008 and become qualified by the end of 2009. By the end of 2010 I’d like to work full-time as a coach, but we’ll see how things work out, I’m open to the universe changing my plans :)
i was a gymnast for 9 years. i’ve seen amazing coaches and awful coaches. my favorite coach died when i was 13, and ever since i’ve hoped there could be more coaches like him. i figure if i’ll never be able to be in the olympics, i might as well inspire some kid to do something great. it’s the least i can do, right? maybe they’ll be motivated to accomplish their dream.
I was a gymnast for 6 years and a coach for 8. I loved every minute of it! Coaching was the best when someone you were working with “Got it” for the first time! I miss gymnastics and coaching very much!
eddievonteese I wish I had more vacation, but 2 months is more than most get...
I was an all-star NCA cheerleader in high-school and now I’ve come full circle.
I love coaching my squad, they’re fantastic and it’s very rewarding.
Coaches can really affect people, and my hope is that it’s always in a positive way.
I love working with kids my 7 year old son plays football with and it makes me want to coach high school kids and hopefully help them grow to be better people that make a difference.
I’ve coached youth soccer and a high school girls lacrosse team. Someday I’d like to coach college lacrosse.
