celebrate SoCalLifer (Stephanie) very last day at work on the 16th July with lots of music, joyful flowers, good wine and great happiness!

I burned a CD with the playlist I “gave” SoCal here. I gave it to her when we met for lunch last week! She is now free to enjoy her retirement with some really cool tunes!

Good luck in taking on this next part of your life. May your days be filled with happiness!

but SoCal, I hope your last day at work was a memorable one and you did go out the way you wanted to. I’d sure like to do the same where I work, but I’m afraid I’m going to be there for a good while before that can happen. Good for you, though!! :)

My gift to you is this picture I took today in my backyard…

I remembered you wrote in one of your entries how they scatter everytime you try. So I sat on my deck and gotcha one.
My brain was not giving me words today, so I found this wonderful poem to go along with it. Enjoy your retirement and new beginning!

The Hummingbird

Came the spring, I picked a corner and
set my mind to making a flower
garden in the midst of this mass of
weeds unattended through
Winters toughening of the soil.
I tilled, and pulled, and turned, and broke, and bled…
The soil was perfect now…
But, alas! The puppy was fervent in her efforts to help me dig!
So I cut, and I sawed, and I nailed,
and created the most beautiful little picket fence with a gate…..
and planted a tree…...
and planted my flowers…
and tended and watered and weeded
and nurtured all through the Spring and Summer months….
To this day, this perfect Autumn morning,
while standing in my doorway,
sipping that first cup of coffee….
I saw the fast-beating wings of that little faerie,
flitting from flower to flower…
was all worth it in that one moment.
