How I did it: I have been thinking about my savings a lot recently - my aspiration is to own my home one day and it looks scary in the current climate. An ISA was recommended by many different sources as a good place to start, since you get a hefty tax free allowance. I compared the rates and did my research, which took most of the time. The application itself took no time at all. Having established that my current bank's cash e-ISA had a respectable rate and was easily accessible, I applied online and set up my savings straight away. Obviously the benefits will be longer term, but I'm glad I've done it already.
Lessons & tips: Check out the different rates and the different possibilities offered by your current bank, but do consider moving if needs be !

I have a fuuny feeling that opening an ISA might depend on actually having some money to put in one.
This must have been a goal I put up in the dim and distant past before going back to uni. You know, back when I had a positive bank balance to my name.
...now I’ve paid off all the debts, I really want to put some money in an index tracker within an ISA. I’ve started researching but it will need some careful study, it’s like going back to A-levels! I think I know what I want and then I’ll read something that will show me I know nothing. I can’t even fully understand how to apply for the fund that mightbe suitable and how to keep money from the share part invested for 15-20 years. There are many days of brow furrowing and pencil chewing ahead! As long as it’s up and running before next April, that’s fine. The money can just go in savings for now.
btw I have a mistrust of IFA’s, I’d rather DYOR and know enough to make an informed decision than hand over money blindly.

What can i say except that i must know myself exceptionally well. No, I haven’t spent it ALL on Amazon but i am spending more than i am saving, back to square one i think :(

This should be possible but it goes hand in hand with my other goal “stick to a budget”. By May/ Juneish next year, i should have a sizeable ISA set up. That is if i don’t spend it all on Amazon….....

This goal has been with me a long time. The reason for its incompletion? Simple- i have no money. Just mountains of student debt and a healthy overdraft. I think i need to get a job :|
