Vlad is anxious to board the next plane

can't do it now  — 2 weeks ago

This isn’t working, at least not with alcohol once every two days and partying. I have almost broken my hand and it affects my concentration and also the time it takes to fall asleep. I still consider polyphasic sleep to be an interesting idea and will likely try again when I have a more organized schedule – which should be soon, in a matter of weeks. At least I somehow got the strength to wake up when my alarm clock rings, that’s a great thing for me.

    update 1  — 3 weeks ago

I’ve taken a somewhat different approach of what I’ve read on the Internet about starting this. Instead of starting with 30minutes sleep periods I’ve started with 3 3hours naps a day and now I’m at 3 2hours naps a day, I’ll gradually decrease the amount of time for each nap until I reach 3 1hour naps per day and then I’ll split the 3 naps in 6 naps of 30minutes. In my opinion this should ease the transition, and so far it’s been working out just fine. What I can see as an effect for now is that I wake up instantly when my alarm clock sounds, as opposed to my usual habit of snoozing the damn thing over and over :). Overall I feel just fine.

I’ll keep posting updates on my progress…

Hmm.. worth a try.  — 3 weeks ago

This sounds very interesting. At the moment I sleep at random, either during day or night ranging from 2 to 12 hours, it’s been going on for about 4-5 years and I’m sick of it, I’m giving it a try for a week or two and see how it goes. The tough part is that I’m not used to interrupt my activities for anything… but hey at least I won’t mind a bit of sleep deprivation at start :)
Good luck to you all that are trying this!

Polyphasic. Sleeping. Starts. Soon.  — 2 months ago

Finally starting to warm up! I’ve been putting off polyphasic sleeping partly because it’s a busy time of year and I don’t want to end up in a proverbial train wreck, but also partly because my apartment is too damn cold! No central heating or insulation (the standard in Japan) makes it frightfully difficult to stay warm. And of course it’s most cold at night—when I’m usually sleeping.

Let’s do this thing!! (well, maybe in a week or two.)

    Day 1 - Feb3rd 08  — 3 months ago

5am – 8am sleep: felt great afterwards; washed clothes; shopped for grocery; studied
12:15pm-12:45pm nap: felt refreshed afterwards; didn’t find it hard to get up; went to concert this afternoon; didn’t fall into sleep during the concert
5pm nap skipped b’c dinner with friends
9:30pm-10pm nap: catch up for the missing of 5pm nap; felt tired after i woke up; recovered in a couple hours

My sleep is already messed up... maybe Everyman's schedule will help  — 3 months ago

    Sleeping 5am till 8am

    Napping 12:30pm to 1pm

    Napping 5pm to 5:30pm

    Napping 11:30pm to 12am

I’ve tried a few times, but I always manage to tell myself that it’s not worth it. Hopefully, by writing it down I can convince myself that I really want to do this.

I mean, 22 hours a day of waking time?

School, even AP classes, would be cake. I could write whenever I wanted. I could read, I could draw, I could do everything.

If I never get this done, I’d have to figure out a good way to cram all this into 16 hours… 6 hours is a lot of time, btw.

    Great!  — 9 months ago

    Worth doing!

I did an “Everyman” schedual for about a month. It only took several days to adapt then I felt great, I felt so alert; almost like time had slowed down. The only downside is the fact that its unsociable, thats why I stopped. I couldnt stand spending all that time alone. + You really have trouble doing things with anyone who isnt doing polyphasic sleep.

Polyphasic sleep - dymaxion schedule  — 1 year ago

    Worth doing!

I did uberman (20 minutes sleep every 4 hours) for around 3 and a half months in 2006. I am currently (april 2007) transitioning to the dymaxion schedule (30 minute sleep every 6 hours).

I’m blogging my experience at http://www.paul-bradley.com

Doing it again  — 1 year ago

    Worth doing!

A while back, I did this for a couple weeks. It was great. I felt great, I was sleeping ~2 hours per 24 hour period, and I had more energy to exercise. I was living the polyphasic(uberman to be more specific) life. It had even taken less effort than most people seem to need. For some reason it wasn’t all that hard to acclimate myself to the schedule.

Then my speakers went out. I had been using my computer as my alarm, and was not to the point where I was waking up automatically every 30 minutes. This put a stop to it as I had no reliable way to wake up after my naps.

Now, I’m going to try to get back to that. I actually just finished my first 25 minute nap(I used 20 minute naps before, but I’m going to try 25). I didn’t sleep during the 25 minutes, but I didn’t really expect to. It was more of just a step towards getting my body used to the schedule.

There’s are different kinds of polyphasic sleeping, so I was wondering what everyone is doing. I already mentioned I’m doing the Uberman cycle, and I think that’s the most well known one.
