Lately, I have noticed this preoccupation with forcing myself to stay awake. For whatever reason I am a bit obsessed with the fact that my each moment is constantly transforming into a larger and larger percentage of my overall time left here. So, I try to increase the amount of available time by convincing myself that I don’t need to sleep when I do. Usually I a so tired that I don’t accomplish anything in the extra hours i am awake. I get up around 7:30am and go to bed between 2am and 5am ….almost every night. I consume tea and coffee constantly; I simply cannot do anything without putting the kettle on.
Just this last week I have felt a lot of drag due to this 3+ year series of habits. I have just been tired constantly. Espresso doesn’t even wake me up. Sometimes at work I will just walk away from a task that is half done and forget about it entirely.
I am interested to see how my life improves with a bit more sleep though I am not entirely sure how I will manage to go about getting used to that much time to being asleep but I know that going on how I am is not an efficient use of my time since I am too tired to utilize it properly. 3 weeks ago
I havent paid much attention to this goal lately but it seems I may be sleeping slightly more than before.
I neeed to reevaluate if I still want to do this or take it off the list. 2 months ago
How I did it: The hardest thing about sleeping more is realizing why you weren't sleeping to begin with. If you're like me, it hits 11PM and suddenly you feel the weight of everything is on your shoulders. I used to leave everything until then and finally get some zzz's at 1AM. This leaves me with about 5 hours of sleep.
For starters, set an amount of time that you want to sleep for. Mine is from 10-6, so 8 hours. Then commit your time to fulfilling that and know the you can only do so much in a day. Your body needs time to rest, too!
If I get to sleep at ten and wake up at 6 tomorrow, I will mark this as done! Successssss! 4 months ago
I can get to sleep at 10 tonight and wake up at 6, I will have failed my goal. But I believe I can. 4 months ago
I went to sleep at 1:30 last night, it isn’t going well. So I searched the “interwebs” and found this site http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/prescriptions-life/201105/7-simple-ways-get-more-sleep
I’m going to follow their steps to get better sleep:
1) I assume it would be 7 or 8 hours.
2) I don’t want to age… okay I really should be sleeping more
3) My goal on 43T is kind of a pact, right? I do have some subscribers!
4) Definitely includes computer. It also is a bit weird. I get to be a super perfectionist before bed and I have to read for however long, meditate, stretch, and do all sorts of stuff. In this case it’s also procrastinating because the main goal is not being achieved. So tonight let’s focus on one goal: SLEEP.
5) Well my plan is to be showering at night, and getting all of my stuff ready to go that night – clothes, papers, my bag, etc. I want to be up and stretching and walking in the mornings, though. I would consider waking up at 6:30 rather than six.
6) This is a great idea! I thought of doing it before, and I’ll test it out tonight.
7) Cool! It’s also nice to know that there are cheats to get sleep in. :) 4 months ago
I’m getting closer to my goal-completion-date every day. I hope I get somewhere, because man, all I want to do is stay up all night long. Well, as a reminder to myself to why I’m achieving this goal, I will list many of the possible benefits:
-Feeling awake in the morning
-Having higher concentration
-Having energy
-Being happier
-Better memory
-Staying in shape
-Less stress
-Less hunger
So there’s my motivation. :) 4 months ago
I keep messing up my sleep and I think the best way for me not to is by recognizing when I’m tired. Last might I felt exhausted but I still stayed up! Because I woke up this morning at nine I feel like I’ll be much more tired tonight. 4 months ago
Until it took me two whole hours to get to sleep last night. I’ve been stressed out and worried too much lately and so I think the best way to sleep is to relax. I guess my challenge IS set for the 10th, so I have time to adjust. Here’s my plan of attack:
Sleep More – by February 10
-10pm-6am, adjust this if necessary for sleep habits to work (i.e. 9:30-6, 10-6:30, if it isn’t long enough)
-Always have this routine, even on weekends – excludes holidays and events. But do make an effort to sleep.
-Wake up on time without use of the snooze button… :D
Bonus Wake up without an alarm clock… that would be another goal accomplished! 4 months ago
Tonight is my first night sleeping on my preferred schedule of 10-6! I’m feeling proud. 4 months ago
I am changing my sleep patterns by hour increments so that soon I will be going to sleep at 10pm and waking up at 6am. Exciting! 4 months ago
Y’know, my biggest issue with sleep is that whenever I decide to finally go to bed on time, I spend wayyyy too much time getting ready! So, tonight, because my plan is to go to bed by 11:30, I am going to get ready at 11:00 so that if I don’t get ready quick, I can’t read. Hopefully all goes as planned. 5 months ago
