Just got Heart of Darkness from the library. I sure hope this is a better book than the last one.

The Mysterious Island is interesting and boring all at the same time. Verne is very good about descriptions of setting and character, without much of an exciting plot.

The Mysterious Island 11 months ago

I finally finished Catch-22. I decided to restart my booklist in order by season, so I’m now reading The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne. This book was suggested in reference to Shannon saying that they were on “Mystery Freakin Island.” I’m almost 1/4 thorough, and I’m really liking it so far. I see lots of parallels. Four people and a dog are stranded on an island after their balloon crashes during a storm. So far they’re still doing a lot of exploring. I’m sure it will get stranger soon.

I’m determined to make it though. Catch-22 is something to think about in it’s own strange way. It really is a satire on the red tape and procedures of life. Something to ponder most greatly…

I’m still working through Catch-22 off and on. It was funny at first, but now it’s just the same nonsense over and over. It’s very similar to The Third Policeman in that aspect.

Okay, so I actually restarted my LOST reading with Catch-22. I’ve been reading it for a couple of weeks, but I’ve been so busy I haven’t gotten too far. It’s funny though so far, in a sad, weird way.

    Tempest 19 months ago

I finished The Tempest in the plane a couple of weeks ago. It really deserves a rereading now that I know the basics of the story, but I won’t do that now. “We are such stuff as dreams are made of.” Great quote, which I didn’t realize was from the Tempest. :)

Anyway, I’m taking a LOST reading break right now, although I am reading Next by Michael Crichton, which is LOSTish in theme. I’m trying to get my hands on Carrie, but barring that I will probably read Island by Huxley next.

    The Tempest. Just started though…

Finished Brief History of Time & Wizard of Oz. I want to add that The Wizard of Oz is a much better and richer book (and less dark) than the movie. I’m sorry I missed it as a kid.

Brief History of Time 21 months ago

Although this is pretty much over my head, I am learning something about quantum physics. I have about 50 pages left.

Next up will be The Wizard of Oz. I need something lighter just to enjoy. ;)

    So Far 23 months ago

Here’s a comprehensive list: http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Literary_works However, some I don’t really consider true references, so I don’t think I’ll read every book on this list. We’ll see how it goes.

Anyway, here’s what I’ve read so far:
    1. Alice in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass
    2. Bad Twin
    3. The Bible
    4. Lord of the Flies
    5. Of Mice & Men
    6. The Stand
    7. Stranger in a Strange Land
    8. A Tale of Two Cities
    9. To Kill a Mockingbird
    10.The Turn of the Screw
    11.Watership Down
    12.A Wrinkle in Time
13.The Dark Tower series (not in this list, but many think it was influential in LOST just as The Stand was…and it was excellent reading
    14. Jurrasic Park (I don’t really consider this a reference, but it’s on that list and I have read it.)

I’m partway through A Brief History of Time & The Third Policeman.
