This is the price of the Wal-Mart culture. Cheap shit, disposable and dangerous to own. Stuff that’s only good for the trash heap from the moment it comes out of the box.
I just tossed out my toaster oven. Less than a year old, it burst into flames. Sure enough, ‘made in China’. I havn’t replaced it – when it comes to a choice between toast and my home not being consumed in flames, I choose the house.
Maybe it’s a good thing we’ve moved the production of everything to China. This could be an opportunity for us to ask ourselves whether or not we really need all of the things we surround ourselves with.
