I got a day trip on the Orient express for my birthday and was fab. Smart dress – you go in and the tables are laid beautifully each with it’s own lamp and linen napkins etc. We were lucky enough to get a private little room so could close the door and have extra privacy. The food was astonishing – started with Bellini’s and then an onslaught of coursesin the morning. Was tipsy before 10am which was a first!
Dinner on the way back was amazing, 5 courses and piping hot, and one of the most lovely experiences ever. Was very dignified – the best dining experience you could hope to have in the most amazing surroundings. Highly reccomened it!
Obviously the best would be to travel on the Orient Express but I would also like the experience of sleeping on a train
I recently got back from my honeymoon, where one of the things we did was travel from Singapore to Bangkok on the E&O Express. It was truly magical and well worth being an entry on my “things to do before I die” list.
The food was incredible, the staff were amazing and the cabin (we had a state compartment) was really great. It was so nice to just sit and watch the world go by…...
I think I may have to extend this item on my list to “travel on ALL the Orient Express trains before I die!!
When we were sorting out where to go on our honeymoon, all I stipulated was that I wanted to cross something off my “things to do before I die” list. The orient express was one of those things. So in October we are travelling on the orient express from Singapore, up through Malaysia via the “bridge on the river kwai” bridge to Bangkok. Two nights and three days on board what must be one of the most famous trains in history!
