Pay yourself first — 4 months ago
Worth doing!
It’s the only way I am able to do it. I calculated how much my bills are per month, and how much to set aside for gas and car maintenance, saving a good amount, and the rest that is left is for me for food, clothes, fun, etc. At the beginning of each month I take out the money I can have for the month as CASH so I am only using credit cards for gas and car maintenance, big things, and emergencies so I can still get points. The money is already guaranteed to be in my checking account when I get the credit card bills, because I set aside and do not touch more than enough to pay it.
I am also bringing my lunch which brought my savings WAY up. I was spending around $50 a week on lunch alone, not to mention fast food later, and lotto tickets and other impulse buys when I went to pick up lunch. I don’t feel deprived though. I find that food is just one of many pleasures in life and I never HAVE to have something when I think I want it. I feel so much better having a healthy lunch I make myself. I am fine with special lunches being only an occasional thing. I used to allow myself to be ill-prepared and forget to make or bring my lunches sometimes, but I can’t do that anymore since I buy more of my own food and spend the time to cook batches. So there is always SOMETHING I can bring for lunch without having to spend extra money and do damage to my health and weight. So I have no excuse not to do it.
