save up for a down payment on a truck

I just turned in paperwork to Payroll to deposit an amount from every paycheck into the truck fund. This will be the best way to save because I don’t have to think about it, and I won’t use the money for anything else.

Now it’s just a game to see now long my truck lasts vs how much money I can accumulate. It would be nice if this could drag on for another couple years.

I love my truck dearly. I bought it new in ‘99 and I’ve put on 116,000 miles so far. It’s in great shape and I’ve had few problems.

But is IS 9 years old now. Something awful might happen. And I need to be ready.

I’m awful at saving money, so I opened up a savings account at another bank. I dropped a couple hundred in there to start, and then directed my IRS refund to be deposited into it. It’s a good start.

What I think I need to do is split up my direct deposit to do this regularly…

This one will come after we’ve saved enough for a 1 month EF. Plan is to continue to save for both (until EF is funded 3 to 6 months).

DH really wants a Nissan Frontier. Hoping to have around $3,000 by December ‘08 (June ‘09 if I can press him to hold off).
