Improve my singing

This weekend I’m auditioning for a musical review… all Oscar and Hammerstein. This is huge stretch… playing a supporting actor or being part of an ensemble is one thing, but if I get this I will be a part of a quintet. Personally, I don’t think I’m up to it, but I hope my voice is. Fake it til you make it, right?

Trying to work out some vocal issues that I’ve had for years. I’ve recently made some major breakthroughs and I’m just thrilled with the results. I made some new sounds yesterday and they are the best ones I’ve ever made!I want to continue to improve. I want more vibrato, which means less tension in my throat, which I am working on. Less tension overall is the goal. Less nasal sounding, more warmth and openness.

I used to sing a lot before and I think I reached a point where I was pretty good actually if I do say so myself. Singing has always been a passion to me. I get this feeling inside that I can’t explain when I’m singing.. but during the past 4-5 years, I had kind of stopped practicing properly due to my depressive state and lost my singing skills completly. It just made everything worse. I restarted on and off, but never kept at it long enough to get it back.

SO lately I’ve been practicing and decided this is it, no more procrastinating. I WANT MY VOICE BACK and will do anything for it. I love singing and I can’t stand running away from something I love so much.

Out of the blue, this morning, I finally felt a change. I think I am getting it back properly. It just suddenly worked. I feel like I’ve gone further than any other times I tried in the past 5 years and it feels SO GOOD!!!!!

I’m loving it so much I just want to sing all the time. Not letting anything ever stop me again!

I can sing tenor and alto real good but when it comes to the high notes (the soprano parts) I cannot do it…. is there like a secret on how I can become a soprano? I want to able to sing in any key! help!

I’ve been taking private voice lessons. How has this helped? I’m on our worship team at church as a guitarist and vocalist, and I’m in my third musical (“Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” “Oklahoma!” and “Annie Get Your Gun.”)

And I have. And I have really improved. So I will check this one off to be accomplished. Maybe, when time allows, I will take a singing class and improve even more.

I need to improve my vibrato and my ability to sing higher!

At karaoke, at least. My voice just isn’t the same, but maybe, when I go back to Chicago, I might enroll in singing classes to make this even better.

My music teacher used to say that my voice is wonderful, that with just a little bit of education it would be worth more than just singing along with the TV… but I never really truly pursued it. I have found out that I can really carry a tune, and I can do really well when I plan on it.

So for now, this is good. But I will get better.
