Clovergirl wonders how long can you call yourself a newlywed?
Well… kind of!
I’m fasting from chocolate for 40 days. Hey, Jesus went into the desert and fasted from food and water for 40 days, so I should be able to give up just chocolate right?
I never would have believed it was possible, but it’s been 22 days so far and I’m doing fine. (It probably sounds really lame, but considering the AMOUNT of chocolate I usually eat, this is a real victory for me!)
It’s really making me realise that reaching for chocolate is a habit for me, and I am trying to reach for fruit or crackers or something healthy instead.
Occasionally I reach for icecream or biscuits instead, which is not really achieving this goal, but boy it’s been a good first step!
The best thing that has helped me has been doing this as a fast, rather than as a diet. So whenever I am tempted, I pray, and speak a bible verse (sometimes out loud, sometimes in my head so as to not look wierd!) which works to change my focus from chocolate to God.
I know it’s only chocolate, but it’s been a big idol in my life, so I know it pleases God and my dentist at the same time, winner :-)

This is now clear to me.
My efforts will be spent trying to limit the intake. Less bread, less sweets, fewer potatoes.
I’m not giving up on health. I’m just recognizing the obvious.

My addiction is ruining my life. It’s why I can’t loose weight. Put a cookie in front of me and I’m all over it. I am going to try and stop though.

Since I started this new nutrition thing, I’ve been able to successfully avoid most sugar-involved foods. This may be the toughest goal on here for me.

isn’t it? As a diabetic and someone who’s overweight, it’s doubly important to win the battle against sugar.
I think this is a one-day-at-a-time kind of thing. I did well yesterday. And I hope to do well today.
At least the latest labs came back with my glucose levels were outstanding. That’s good news! I just gave some blood today for the next round of tests. I hope to have lowered my cholesterol levels as well. We’ll see.

These days Brachs Bridge Mix is like a drug addiction to me. It has to be that- nothing else. I drive around to different stores looking for it-need to get my “fix”. Oh-it’s horrible! (but it’s so good!) In the past, it would be other forms of sugar-ice cream, cookies, sometimes, it wouldn’t matter. I know this is a chemical addiction. IT HAS TO STOP!!!!! I’ve stopped before, for an extended period of time, then went off the wagon. I will stop again. This is my goal.

I read in a great book that eating protein for breakfast really helps to prevent the urge to snack on sweets. So… I have tried eating organic healthy peanut butter on rice cakes in the morning and, by golly, it worked. Try it! Eat an egg or meat or peanuts or something. That isn’t to say that I don’t want sugar – but I am generally safe until noon.

Sugar hooks you because of not only the taste, but also because it throws you back and forth like a roller coaster. Complex carbs absorb much more slowly and so you only feel hungry when you really do need to eat !
Also, exercising then drinking water seems to break my munchie attacks.

Did a no carb diet for two weeks and realised just how much sugar, in various forms, I was eating. I feel much better for it. I will now reintroduce healthy carbs and some fruit, but try to stay off the junk food.
