How to have lots of pets
It made me
fulfilled
 "I love animals, especially dogs, and I think they really do improve your life!"
How I did it: Once I finished college and was out on my own, a friend gave me a kitten I named Henry. 6 months later, I decided to get him a kitten to play with, and along came Ruthie. A year later, one of my patients had a bunch of lab puppies that she didn't want, so I adopted Izzy and Emma. And then a friend had me dogsit her border collie Casey while she was on vacation, and Casey ended up joining our family, too. I don't mean to make light of having a lot of animals. They are incredibly easy to adopt. It's their care that takes a lot of work, time, and money. I go on 14 two-mile walks every week (two dogs each day on a rotating schedule), spend 15 minutes daily cleaning litter boxes, and spend about $200 a month on food, treats, and vet visits. So please think hard before you get a pet, because they require a lot of attention, and often start misbehaving when they don't get enough! Lessons & tips: Start small. I started with a cat, because they require less attention than a dog...just food, water, and litter box! When you move up to a pet like a dog, do a lot of research. Every breed has pros and cons. I prefer labs, because they are adorable, but they tend to act out if you don't give them enough attention, and they need a lot of exercise. Same with border collies - they need lots of stimulating activities. Every dog is different, and you want to know what you're getting into so that your new pet doesn't end up at an animal shelter when you can't handle it. Do research on the average cost of your animal, so you aren't shocked when it ruins your budget. And do research on vets in your area so you are prepared from the beginning for preventative care visits, and have a plan for emergencies. Resources: My vet is a HUGE help, as well as her vet techs. I also used the ASPCA website to research dog breeds to find the one that was right for me. Stores like PetCo and PetSmart are great for dog training classes and seminars (some seminars are even free!). |

How I did it: My wife is responsible for this. They were all her adoptees. Leo was first, then Leona, the Godzila (who died), then Thalymus, then Mochi. I originally thought that 2 is the rational limit. When Alli adopted #3, I said that is the absolute limit. Then she adopted Mochi ... this was really breaking the rules.Ok, we keep Mochi, but three is still the limit, not four! Read how I did it…

I love all animals. All of them. But I only have a dog and a rat! Don’t shun me for having a rat, they are truly adorable, intelligent, and nice. I love Penny with all my heart. She’s not dirty of diseased.
Anyway, I’d like to have a huge zoo. I want like 10 rats (there are rat lovers out there with 20+ rats!), 4 dogs, 3 cats, fish, turtles, chinchillas, etc.
Mom is so stubborn. She won’t let me get any more.
Animals are fuzzy anti-depressants. They swallow up all of my fear, depression, anxiety, and sadness. My parents don’t understand this. Pets literally make my life easier. I couldn’t ever live without them! I need more, and I am determined to break Mom’s will against it.

So far i have my cat and two chinchillas. I think maybe 10 pets might count as a lot, excluding anything smaller than a chinchilla. I’ll tick this off once i reach that goal.

I’m thinking that having lots of pets is very similar to having lots of living things to care for that give you a sense of satiafaction and reward.
So the plants I’m house sitting are Way part of my pets now… so I have cats and fish and turtles and fogs and plants…
Oh but the turtles ate the frogs three of the fish, so we decided they are grown up now and threw them in the front yard.
back down to cats an fish and plants… I can’t wait to get a dog…

I have owned: dogs, degus, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, mice (kangaroo and common), hamsters (dwarf and teddy bear), a hedgehog, turtles, a newt, birds, a snake, a vole, a toad, tree frogs, bull frogs, fish, shrimp, hermit crabs, anoles…
And they all lived happy, healthy lives :-) (except maybe the newt…I think he was depressed and took his own life. Poor guy :( )
I currently have two dogs and two degus! And I would love to have a pet squirrel (not flying squirrel).
