I was so close to marking this off- but the weekend before I signed the contract I realized that a trip to Paris would have become a financial burden for the majority of my family. And as this was meant to be a celebration where our families met it made no sense to move forward with it so we have decided not to have a reception.
My husband and I had a fabulous ceremony already so while this would have been nice, it was completely unnecessary. We will celebrate our one year anniversary with a much deserved two week vacation to Thailand or West Africa. (We plan to use the rest of the money we have saved by not having this reception towards a down payment on a home.)
Maybe we can revisit this idea at a vow renewal ceremony in 5, 10 , 20 years but for now I will bid the Seine adieu.

So this is almost set in stone. I have the contract in hand and have a meeting to confirm next week. We have decided on a cocktail dinatoire, 3 hour cruise, with plenty of champaign and dancing. Puerto Rico meets the French/Portuguese. Should be unforgettable!

My husband and I eloped while on vacation in Puerto Rico two months ago. Our plan was to marry next May (after I graduate from university) in Paris (where he is from.) Lot’s of complicated issues with that so we did it alone and it was really quite beautiful and reflected both of our personalities perfectly.
But I must say that I did miss my family and the celebration that would have ensued if they had all been there. Aside from that this would be the only chance for both sides of the families to meet.
I am having a really hard time admitting that I want this celebration with my friends and family even though we are already married but now that I see it in writing I know that I would like to go through with it.
