take good photographs

This goal was weird—how do I measure it? Reading my list today, I’m deciding to take this goal down b/c I see at least one picture that I like or think was well done whenever I develop a roll. I have taken some good photographs; I will take more. I’m constantly learning what makes me think that a picture is good and I’m learning to practice those things.

Today, a movie gave me a good idea: I can go to the zoo and take pictures of people without most folks noticing. It’s a public place, so it’s legal. I think someone suggested the zoo to me a while ago, though perhaps so I could practice by photographing animals. I don’t remember who this tip came from. Maybe Jane? Perhaps my photography teacher? Anyway, I’ll need money to do this… unless I find out when their free time is and go then. Then, I have to figure out where to stand so not to seem suspicious. I guess I shouldn’t carry the tripod if I’m trying to blend in. he.

Oh! I can also stand outside on Beale Street and get fabulous pictures, test out my night vision. I hate driving downtown on the weekend. I need to figure out where I can park and take public transportation down…. will that be available when I’m ready to leave? Also, probably not as safe of a place to go alone. I’ll have to tweak the details of this plan. Sounds very exciting. I can test my night vision.

A big part of taking good photos is living in the present. Once you are fully immersed in a moment, only then can you truly capture the beauty of it.

But that said, looking at the world through a viewfinder can teach you how to live in the moment. I must say, my life feels so much richer now that I’m happy with the photos I take.
