maxHRA is doing better
i finally applied. worried about getting letters of rec. though. i’m sure most of my professors don’t remember me. i may have to do a semester of post bacc.
How I did it: Applied to a local school for a scholarship to do the only thing I really, truly know how to do: speak Italian. Got into UCLA, and worked my ass off. Studied during the summers, applied for every grant and scholarship I could get my hands on, won them all. Took advantage of being a student again in every way.
Lessons & tips: Hmmm. I'm still not sure where I went wrong - except that the department represented itself wrong and I believed the people who told me what I wanted to hear. Maybe if you're not in the Italian dept at UCLA, things are more straightforward.. (but I have heard stories that tell me it's rampant in academia)

Maybe I should make a goal to find a job that will pay me for my Bachelors…...

The economy sucks and if you are a social worker it really sucks because most social workers are employed at non-profit agencies which are usually the first places to take a hit when the economy takes a dive.
I work in foster care and they pretty much got rid of all of the social workers except for those that have master’s degrees. I started grad school but then Hubby lost his job so I dropped out and got a job and really haven’t been back since.
I’ve looked into going back and Florida State has an advanced program but the next cohort won’t start until 2010, which is 2 years from now.
I’m starting school in two weeks, I didn’t choose a topic yet, i need to have one for next semester, I hope i have enough time to find one. I major in linguistics, i am interested in language acquisition but this is way too wide, i need to be more specific, more precise…
if you have the time and resources go for it… its worth it on a professional level & on a personal level especially if you did it in a different country/state! it develops your skills on all levels really.. and when you go back home… you get paid more ;)
utopya needs to get her act together...
Today I went to the university library to see if some of the literature I would like to use for my thesis proposal is available. And it is! I already got one book, and ordered some other things. Also, I can get some articles at another university, so I have to take care of that tomorrow or next week. Although I haven’t found out yet of the primary sources I want to use are available here, I do have some hope know for convincing my teachers that this idea is doable. I think it’s really interesting, and much of the literature is already rather dated, which means that there is a gap to fill with new research. Plus, someone told me that one of the main researchers in this area is connected to my university, only at another department ánd she gave me some contact information for other people who could give me advice. Sure, I suck at approaching people for things like this, but I so badly want this topic to work that I might conquer my fairs for the sake of academic research – or rather, for the sake of a successful master thesis ;)
After three years of thought, I believe that within the next few years I’ll be pursuing a M.Ed from one of the Ontario Universities – in Curriculum Studies and Development. I have yet to really look into if I’d like to do a Thesis paper, Research paper or just course study… but I would like to keep some avenues open. :)

“Is it hard to get in to London Universities? (f.e.Royal College of Art or University College) And if you're able to get a place, can you live a normal life without working like hell to pay off student loans etc?”
