WTF gas prices are the crazy!! 2 years ago

OK so I bought a diesel truck big ugly F250 beat to all …
and I replaced glowplugs glow plug controller, tie rods,
tightend up the steering ect ect. well after putting in a
little over 300 hours of sweat blood and well if I ad any left.
hmmm… I got it up and running and am ready to make boidiesel
. well probally after this cold snap er winter is over.
or I could winterize the thing. I hate plugging in the block heater in the morning. but summer is just half a year away.

err diesel and gas prices so high. resident select, flipping
blows up a bunch the frigging oil refineries and sends it
though the roof. If the corporates don’t come up with
someone better next time I’ll bounce out of this place.

    Getting started 2 years ago

My husband showed me the titration process yesterday, which easier than I thought it would be.

I don’t actually have a vehicle that could run on biodiesel, but I’d still like to do it. At the very least I could put it in my MSR dragonfly! :) Now if I had a diesel motorcycle, then I’d definetly do it!

oil companies run the show currently. almost everyone, whether they know it or not are dependent on oil. Everything you buy, has likely been shipped, or had petroleum used in it’s creation. Petroleum is great, it allows us to maintain our lifestyle. But Petroleums demand will soon outstrip supply. First we will be looking at inflated prices, and then we will be looking at shortages. With inflated prices more drilling will go on… I’m working to reduce our dependency on oil. We can do this by using vegitable oil instead. This is great because it takes us out of the middle east, and puts more value into our local farming systems. We can grow our fuel locally. And help to sustain our planet by using a carbon neutral source of energy. Our plan is to grow soybeans and or canola, squeeze out the oil and use it to run our farm machinary. We can sell it to local fueling stations so the cities can run on it as well. If the entire country addopts these practices, we could cut our dependency on petroleum substancially.

    svo 2 years ago

after three meetings over the last week. talking to the leading prof out of Iowa State about biodiesel and a leading German engineer about svo, It looks like svo is the way to go. Although the EPA is not up to speed. They don’t have their regulations up to date. As a result of this we could be looking at some technical issues/legal issues using conversion kits, and buying and selling svo. Hopefully we can help press the issue and with the germans, already having set regultions guidelines the US should have a good working example to follow. Anyway it’s exciting times in the world of fuel, and I feel great to be apart of a leading evolution which could help to change our green house gas emissions here on our farm, in madison, in wisconsin and in the entire country. The enevitable increase in fuel costs is actually a great wave that will grab everyones attentions and help prompt positive change.

straight veggie oil…. looks like it might be a better way to go than biodiesel. less energy imput to make it, more simple to make it. That’s cheaper to make and cheaper to run. This is actually a bigger deal than one would think. Bio diesel costs about $3.00 to make SVO is about $2.00 for us. That could mean fuel costs could stablize around $2 and change in the future. +(of course there’s gas taxes) The Europeans already offer this stuff at the pump. time to buy that diesel car and get it converted

    the squeeze 3 years ago

It all happened. I’m not sure how, but We got a press and processor. and we got a grant from the state for 90gs so it’s game on. We are squeezing seeds and with some simple processing producing our own biodiesel. The exaust smells good and clean. not that i don’t like the smell of regular exhaust. So we are soon to be off fossil fuels. can’t wait to kick the habit. Seems like it’s the right time with peak oil being here. the other thing is that makes biodiesel so great is that a diesel car can get as good of or better gas milage than a hybrid. props to you all with this goal. Maybe i can help you get there.

Did it - Well worth it, but... 3 years ago

I’m not going to have time to brew my own every week. I enjoyed doing it the once, but I think that’s going to have to be it.

Starting our research now 3 years ago

Home grown, home brewed and not a single Marine died to provide it. I want to learn how. I’ve checked out a few sites. Hope to learn more at the MREA Fair. Plan to start production and have a diesel car by Spring 2007.
