become a veterinary technician

In a year I should be graduating from my 4 year program with a bachelors in animal health technology. Then I get my license, and then hopefully two years after that I can get my masters degree in agriculture and teach.

after the getting fired fiasco, i have decided to stick with what i know for a while and work in a shop or something this holiday season. wish me luck in my interviews. (i had one today, hopefully i’ll just get that job.)

if i am fired from my job as a veterinary technician, my future career as a veterinary technician looks pretty grim, no?

I really want to become a Veterinarian, but I’ve study Computer Graphics and Multimedia for the last 5 years now. I just feel its hopeless, that any chance I had to ever get into a college to study for, it is just gone now. I just feel at a lose. I turn away from the life that I wanted because a vet did not meet up to my family requirements. It didn’t make enough money…

It took me almost 6 years to realize its not what everyone eles wants me to do with my life, its about the path i choose to walk. But with me needing requirements in biology, science and math. Where as I have none, what can I do? Can anyone tell me ?
Can I get into a college to study for vet when I’m just a computer graphics/multimedia major ?

i got aNOTHer job. i’m crazy. i felt that i needed to not just see cats. i would get spoiled, and that would be no good. i mean, how will i learn anything about other animals if i work only with kitties?
okay, the real reason was that i had an anxiety attack about getting fired last week when i saw that the dr. was looking to hire another tech. i was sure he was unhappy with me and i was going to be replaced.
that night, i applied to three different practices and now i’ve been hired by one.
it turns out i’m not getting fired, so now i will try to have two jobs.
what about esme you ask?
well, yes, there is this horrible feeling i have that i’m being a terrible mother, but then again, with all this house buying and car needing (and original car not being totalled out by insurance company, but being returned to us with only cosmetic damage fixed as internal damage was not due to accident) we could use the money very nicely.
esme’s day care is getting some new kids this week, and there will be even more little persons for her to play with. surely, surely this is better for her than not having little persons to play with.
but being without her mama or papa all day? oh, oh god i hope i’m doing the right thing.

i did my first euthanasia today.
yikes.
i guess that means my career is moving right along. gah.

i suppose i’m not used to being on my feet this much. also that whole pregnancy and post pregnancy running around in flip flops and sandals must have wreaked havoc on my poor footsies. must by a proper pair of shoes tomorrow.
also, a couple of people called in sick today, and that caused a little weirdness. it seemed that everyone was turned up to 11 or something.

(and did i give a cat the wrong meds today? yes i did. gah!)

the doctor had a talk with me today about my skill level and what not, and offered me a little less than what i thought we’d agreed i’d be getting paid. yikes. it’s not a disaster, but ever so slightly disappointing. he keeps pointing out how far i’ll have to go to catch up to the seasoned veterans on staff. i know this is meant to encourage, but the under-confident side of me takes it as discouraging. must work on that.

i’ve got the job, and i love it so far. and i hope to stay at this hospital for a good long while. it’ll be good to get paid to do my internship as well. and i’ll probably get a discount on soft paws for audrey and chakotay who really do need them before they ruin grandmama’s screen door entirely.

i may have found the perfect job! in a feline only practice. which is what i want! i have a working interview tomorrow, and so esme has to go to work with papa for a few hours. but if i GET the job, then it’s daycare for esme, which terrifies me.
