Going to have to abandon this goal . . . 22 months ago

I have become more conscious of my exclamation point habit. I have even cut down a bit. But now I seem to be using more emoticons, especially smiles and winks. Which is worse?

Oh well, I guess I will just have to accept that I need crutches to fully convey my sparkling personality. Heh.

I am a fricking English teacher!!! What is wrong with me?!?

I tell my students with a straight face, “Let your words, not your punctuation, convey excitement. You are in college now; you no longer need the crutch of exclamation points.”

Then I go online and pepper my most mundane entries with . . . you guessed it . . . exclamation points! <—(See?)

While I would be happy to continue this little vice online and in secret, I am now catching myself putting them in emails! What is next, little hearts dotting my i’s?

Okay, this entry has been a regular !-fest, but after this, I am swearing off! I mean it!!!
