roof goes up!!!! 1 week ago

Today the roof is going up on the wedding pavilion. I am excited!!! Can you tell?

I even got to help out a little bit.

The day is bright and clear. The dogs are happy with pods called ice cream pods. You break them open and eat the inside wet fluff and spit the seeds. The seeds are smooth as little pebbles in the mouth. The dogs love this treat. Farmer’s Market, 25 cents a pod.

yesterday at Farmer's Market 2 weeks ago

There is a certain kind of orchid that will work really well for the wedding pavilion. It is mostly white and blooms on and on, for months at a stretch. In parts of the island, I have seen people who grow orchids plant this in a bedding style, right in the ground.

But, they are difficult to find, especially in numbers. Sunday, I talked with one of the orchid ladies at the market, and she is phasing out her stock of them. She will save thirty plants for me. This will be plenty to have an absolute abundance of these beautiful flowers growing all around the pavilion.

kicked over the edge by DocD 1 month ago

in a good way that is
I went ahead and ordered the copper colored hammock ultra large ( 7 plus feet wide!) to hang at the treehouse.

So what is it doing here under the fabulous wedding destination goal?

It’s to give the newlyweds another place to get close – help draw them over to the treehouse. As DocD says, the copper color will be pretty with all that green, and I’ve been rainforest testing the nylon out in the trees and it dries quick.

    I am jazzed!

As with all these building goals 1 month ago

We move forward in increments. Our builder needed to get the frame up before he could tell us what to buy in the way of roofing material.

Last week we went to roof supply and picked out the roof. It wasn’t what we had in mind when we went in, but we are happy. Here the roofs are metal. It is possible to get other things – I would adore thatch – but nothing else makes sense in the rain forest. Thatch would be sprouting stuff you do not want and causing trouble beneath. The color we chose is a sort of copper effect, that will both merge with the forest and look far from drab. We have a view of the pavilion roof from our upstairs media room in the house, one of the cool views from the house. Since we put a roof in it, we wanted the roof to have some charm. The wedding participants will likely never even notice it, except in the photos that show the full view of the pavilion. They will not be looking at it from that angle, but below, looking up toward the ceiling as they approach.

Roof delivery will be week after next. So, it’s looking like the Bali gate carved with shell ginger, the pavilion, and the lean to at the tree house will all be simultaneously in process. Meantime, we’ll be working on the so called kitchen in the treehouse. Perhaps I should call it the drink & rice prep area. No self respecting cook would admit it’s a kitchen.

A new pavilion picture 2 months ago

    It’s going up really fast.

Today I spent some time working on a brochure. It will be printable from the website. We’ll have one website for the entire business: mahinuinalani. Don’t look for it yet. It’s there but not really.

Today I also spent hours trimming out hapu’u and playing with the dogs in the secret garden. I am trying to be certain where my property lines are, and it isn’t easy in the jungle! Where they are may not matter too much, but the doggies need to know, as they pay attention to boundaries and demand respect for them…

Pavilion going up! 2 months ago

    Here is the first post.

Now, all four posts are up, the boards across the tops of the posts are up, and part of the floor is in!

The container from Bali is in Hawaii 3 months ago

If all goes well, in one week it will parked down the street and we will be unloading the pavilion.

The lovely piers are in the ground. They were so lovingly constructed that they have their own elegance. I even took a picture. Soon they will be hidden under the pavilion.

Now I am feeling the time pinch 5 months ago

The pavilion is still in Bali. With it are the treehouse doors. This means the two projects are inextricably interwoven. There will be a day or more when the container is sitting here at this house, and the treehouse is waiting for the doors.

The trick will be to get those doors onto the treehouse right away. I just got an inquiry from someone coming over for a mid September 20th wedding anniversary celebration, and realized chances are slim even the treehouse will be complete. The upside is, if the container is still en route, we can turn over this house to them, and go stay in the treehouse for a few days. We can live without doors.

This is a real incentive to make our personal footprint here a very lightweight one, and to very quickly dispose of all the excess that will be created by the arrival of our mainland possessions.

before I go back out and clear ginger 5 months ago

Ginger from the site of the fabulous wedding destination that is, here is an orchid growing here in the trees. This is one reason why this will be a fabulous wedding destination. Orchids like this grow here, in the trees. Is this not amazing?
