How to watch The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Extended Editions) in one sitting
How I did it: Planning - Get invitations out to friends early. We typically watch the films in December/January, so it can be hard to find a Saturday that works for everyone because of the holidays.
Lessons & tips: Make sure that first-timers know that this will be a 14-hour commitment. There can be some restlessness, which is fine, but try to set the tone and keep the movies paced to finish on time. Talking shouldn't necessarily be discouraged, but keep it at a minimum so that everyone can stay engaged.

I got through the first 2, and ended up with a fearsome headache, and a deep hatred for the whole bally thing.
Watching them over the course of 3 Saturdays is more rewarding.

Done and Done… So good we plan to do it again in a month or two when we (me and my sister) have re-read the hobbit and the lotr back-to-back…
Well… we did a few breaks to strech, eat and go to the bathroom, so it took us nearly a whole day. But it was fun and the movies are amazing.
A fellow LotR fan and I decided that since our wives had other plans and we had nothing better to do we would do a full day of the extended additions. We began at 8am and “The End” appears on the screen at 9pm. We took small breaks at DVD switches and longer breaks during “intermission” (between the movies).
It was definately worth it as I was able to notice small things that occur in each movie that I might have missed otherwise.
My recommendation is lots of sugary snacks, pizza and plenty of soda, we drank a 12 pack of Dr. Pepper.
Advice: Give the kids something else to watch. Cook dinner in advance. Make sure wife also likes movie. Use the surround sound. Don’t try to read along in the book!

on the day “Return of the King” was released in theaters, a theater in Jacksonville, FL offered to show all three films back to back…16 hours of LOTR (albeit, non extended edition) joy…
after they came out on DVD… we did it again…that was love…
