Please, and thank you. 7 months ago

When I wrote this goal down, I didn’t have a definite “finish” in mind. I mean, manners can always be improved upon. I’m pretty sure what I wanted to accomplish was say “please” and “thank you” more, especially around school when someone holds the door open or passes out papers… simple things like that. I’ve become a lot more polite over the past year in small instances like this, and I hope to continue so in the future.

One thing I have noticed, though, is the more polite you are to people, the nicer and more approachable of a person they thing of you as. Just saying “thank you” to someone has been a good conversation starter.

I grew up with great manners, but I moved to the states somewhere in the boonies. Basically, I stopped caring about having manners and grew onto belching and farting infront of my new friends. Soon I started to realize that it was kinda gross after sometime. I have a boyfriend now and sometimes I even gross him out. But he farts a lot, so he doesn’t care if I fart. But anyway! I don’t want to be farting constantly in my old age because that’s just even more disgusting. Everytime I burp without thinking, I have this quick reflex of popping myself one on the mouth. And farting I can handle. _

I ordered this book a few days ago. I am determined to improve my manners and the way I present myself to the world. I thing that I’m trying to improve on, is always looking good and presentable because you never know who you will meet and what your first impression will be. I have to have to remember this next time I’m getting ready in the morning.

Today, I’m going to read about plate settings. I am going to learn once and for all whether the bread plate goes on the right or on the left.

I have to learn how to hold myself in public, how to make small talk and how not to be shy in social situations. I feel like such a knob sometimes when I talk to people.

What manners does a proper lady need? well, i have to learn to be much more warm and friendly first off. so when people come over, I should have everything ready and offer them things like water or coffee.

I should also learn EXACTLY how to eat at a fancy table. i generally know how to eat but quite frankly, there are things that still puzzle me, like which side is the bread plate. I CAN NEVER REMEMBER… I have an etiquette book and I will read the section on place settings before the christmas parties I have to attend this week.
