Muriel is realizing her life circumstances.

Next Semester 16 months ago

I’ve signed up for Acting Fundamentals at the community college for the Fall semester.

I think there’s a midterm monologue, which is already making me nervous.

I’ve printed out the forms for the extras’ casting agency, which is where I should start. Let’s see if I’ll pass their “interview” and even handle a real movie set before I jump the gun.

I’ll probably head to the agency as soon as I figure out what “hair and makeup ready” really means.

Still planning to sign up for the acting course this fall at my school though.

Edit: The form asks my age range, every detail of clothing measurement, if I have any costumes (?), and if I’ll do nude work.

Not sure about the age range or nude work. Perhaps 18-25 and only if certain actors are involved? Squeal!

No, I have a scar and 9 toes, people! I don’t think anyone wants to see me nude.

Recent Urges 19 months ago

Besides having a very bothering urge to photograph and not having my camera, I have been wanting to try acting (again). At first, it started as little discussions about how to be an extra in TV or film – where do you go, who do you talk to, does it cost to find the information, do I need a headshot, do I need experience? Whatnot and whathaveyou. Now, I’ve ended up coming across schools of acting, like Stella Adler, which blows my mind at how much it can cost for those places. They didn’t even use numbers, they spelled the tuition out in words.

I participated in some sort of after-school acting group with my best friend when we were little; I wish I remembered more detail. Our production ended up being Aesop’s fables, and I remember having to be a bird, pruning my wings in the middle of the audience and having a lion eat me. My beau can’t even imagine me doing that. He doesn’t see me as someone who would act, and really, neither do I sometimes. I turn beet red when a group’s attention is brought to me, I sweat like crazy, and P has frequently asked me to “prank” family members by acting something out and I’ve always refused.

But, perhaps it’s my circumstances. I mean, I was that bird at some point – I’ve been onstage in those elementary school productions, and I was fine. I enjoyed it. I didn’t sweat or turn beet red, I just acted.

I don’t know if I acted well, but you know.

So, next semester at the community college, I’m going to take the first acting course. It’s the cheapest route at this point and will get my toes wet. Then, we’ll see how things go.

Sometimes... 2 years ago

I think I should have become an actress or playwright instead of a biologist :) Often, I just make up exciting dialogs and monologues in my head and act them out when no one can see me :)
