For the record, I’m adamant that you should personally choose your own drum if at all possible. I feel it’s very important to “meet” the drum that’s right for you.
That said, I was very upset when my boyfriend told me he’d ordered me a drum off the internet b/c I was too stressed and needed to start drumming again as an outlet. when the drum came, i didn’t even want to see it, told him to send it back. BUT he convinced me to at least give it a chance, and i have to admit, i do like it. The decoration is a bit cheesy, and i would have chosen a thicker head, but we get along just fine, and i’m not sending her back.

I used to be a drummer (hand drums). When I was married, we had a houseful of percussion instruments, mostly hand drums. I drummed at festivals, in private fire circles, in my house. When I got divorced, I kept one baby ashiko. Unfortunately, living in an apartment I rarely got a chance to play it. I eventually gifted the drum to my best friend’s 5 year-old, who was just developing her rhythm and getting into drums. That was 4 years ago, and I really miss drumming.
I was hoping to buy a new drum at Starwood this year, but I decided to move to NH and that broke my bank. No Starwood for me. Next year, though . . . next year. . . .
