I don’t want a mechanic to try to screw me over

Doing research on various models, realizing I’m going to need some basic auto repair skills for this to be practical. That’s how I found 43 things, through Google, but I’m still learning how to use this, put a request for info as a cheer instead of a message!

Sick of throwing $ away 11 months ago

I’m certain I can figure this stuff out. I want to be able to make repairs myself, rather than paying someone else to do it. So much I want to learn, so little time.

Went to the junkyard 14 months ago

I pulled an old window out of an old van and replaced my broken one (with help). It was a fun learning experience. Then a funny thing happened: I had a mini celebration in my head because everything was fixed on my van, and then my side view mirror fell off and shattered all over the street. I guess it’s back to the junkyard!

gun01 learning some big big lessons...

New Skills 16 months ago

I have no practical skills at all, but if I could fix my car that would be amazing.

Funnily have always wanted to learn to panel beat so I will try and learn to do that as well.

And have u ever watched Pimp my ride, well I always get excited when they change the interior of the car, I want to be able to learn to sew those new leather seat covers that would be the bomb!!!!

I changed my brakes Last week! 17 months ago

I went to www.repairyourcar.com and there is a free video on brake replacement… It walked me through everything!

I hang around people that fix cars for a living so that shouldn’t be to hard to learn.

I changed my oil! 18 months ago

Yesterday I changed my oil and oil filter in class. Even though it was pretty easy, this is a huge accomplishment for me because I’ve never touched anything under a hood. I took my big van to class, and the first time I rolled under it I felt a little claustrophobic.

It went pretty well, but my oil pan ended up being too small and it overflowed dirty oil all over the garage floor, which was no fun to clean up. By the end I was growing comfortable being under the car, and even reaching my hands deep up inside to get to the oil filter.

This just the beginning, but it was a huge victory for me because I was so intimidated before. Now I have an intimate knowledge of where the oil goes in, comes out, where to look for leaks, etc. I’m getting to know where things are under there!

This saturday I’ll be doing a tune-up. I’ll let you know how that goes…

Water Pump Replacement 19 months ago

I’m a single mom trying to replace my water pump on a 1992 Eagle Summit!! It is much more complicated them any other vehicle I have worked on, I am looking for a diagram and any tips available. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

my dad is a mechanic... 19 months ago

so this hsoudl be pretty easy to achieve!
my brother’s motorbike broke down earlier and he was stuck so it would be good for me ( a young woman) to be able to fix and a car and not be stranded on the side of a road at any time of day or night
although of course, my dad is only a phone call away…must be independent at some point! ;-)
