Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

NutellaisGreatHouse Huting Takes Up the Most Time...

As does this writing. Either way, now that I’m officially banned from house hunting for a month, this goal will probably be in the bag.

Now just to stay away from dress shopping and pants hunting and Ebay. Never mind Perez. Those are the real goals, right? 7 years ago

NutellaisGreatAnother Goal...

I need to find something else to do with my time. I think I’m bored at home when I get home from work, and the Internet is the perfect mindless activity. I’d rather be reading or watching TV, because most of what I do on here is hunt for houses that I can’t afford. Great logic.

I’ll start with 2 hours a day on the weekends, and 1 hour a day during the week. We’ll see how it goes. 7 years ago

AOKMuch improved on this.

Putting this into my conscious thought has really made a difference. I feel great about this week and will consider this goal complete. It was a short intervention of sorts. It’s always there to reintroduce if the need be. 7 years ago

AOKI was successful

in not hangin out at 43T for hours yesterday. In fact, I didn’t log in after yesterday morning. I did check my email LOTS of times, though, so I was only half-heartedly successful. This is going to be my one visit to 43T today and I’ve already checked my email this morning. I will check my email once more tonight and THAT’S IT! Ultimately I am going to have to change this goal to UNPLUG FOR A DAY or WEEK or LONGER. I am letting the internet control me way too much!

Hmm… I love how once you write something down, you can reread it and see how pathetic you sound. I am totally trying to justify why I cannot go without checking email at home (which always leads to tons of surfing). Now that I think about it, I really only need to check my work email daily. My personal email isn’t so important that I need to check it daily. If in fact I did this, then I could restrain from being on-line at home for an immeasurable amount of time. Yikes!

Okay, so for today I am going to let this be my ONE visit to the internet. gulp

BYE BYE7 years ago

I am only going to visit 43T twice today. Last night I logged in several times and I realized that enough is enough. I have to find a better use of my time (like working on my goals). Ha!

Here is my morning log in. 7 years ago

AOKThis week

I was on the internet way too much. It’s mostly not time well spent. I am going to try to stay off the computer as much as possible and see how this works. I will still check my email in the morning and evening and check 43T at that time. Otherwise I need to UNPLUG! 7 years ago

SpecialLikeAllBetter Than...

Since I got that computer virus, a while ago, I haven’t been able to use the computer as often as I’d like to. Plus life just has been really busy lately. My son is getting older as am i, and there are just more things I have to take care of on a daily basis. Actually have to take care of, alongside all the things I want to do. There are lots of things on the internet I need to keep up though, which takes up some time as well. Like the organizations I’m involved in, all my email addresses, certain diarys i have going, and communicating with friends. Through IM (which is not often anymore at all) or websites.

This is definitely one of my addictions though (internet). I love to type, i love interacting, and the internet gives me some effortless opportunities to do that. Hey being on the computer is not so bad. I could think of worse things that could take up my time. And i’m glad i’m not into them and on here every once in a while. 7 years ago
