Thank goodness it finally ended. I didn’t care for this book at all, at all. I didn’t find it funny. The character of Emma irritated the hell out of me. If this were a modern book I’d have guessed the author had a deadline to meet and just threw the ending on to finish. I realize this is one of Jane Austen’s more popular books but it didn’t appeal to me a bit.
Well, this one is done and I am glad of it.
My pathetic library is having to look far and wide for the other books so I’m re-reading Persuasion which I vastly prefer over Emma. Go Anne!

I still haven’t finished Emma. This is the first book I’ve ever taken back to the library without having read it completely. I was making myself finish three or four pages at a time, fervently hoping Emma would be run over by a carriage or whatever it’s called that takes 4 horses. No luck yet. I will check a copy back out because it has become a ‘thing’ with me now.
gah. Emma is my least favorite Jane Austen. I don’t like Emma.
She’s much worse than Marianne in S&S. Emma really reminded me of some character. I thought about it and today it came to me: Emma and Mrs. Bucket (‘Boo-KAY’) from Keeping Up Appearances are soul sisters. Both of them totally misread people and situations. I’d like to slap them both. So my favorites remain Persuasion and P&P. I guess I like the Ps better.
My library does have other volumes of Jane Austen’s. I guess they were all out last time I looked. I actually checked the catalog this time.
I picked up Persuasion and Emma. I liked the A&E/BBC version of Persuasion so I started with that one, of these two.
If only Anne had told Lady R. to mind her own beeswax eight years prior. But then there wouldn’t be the tale and all this enjoyment would be lost.
My library doesn’t have any more of Jane Austen’s books so I must do an interlibrary loan.
I’d never read this one before. Saw the movie with Emma Thompson though. Marianne just kept pissing me off. She was so self centered, didn’t think anyone else in the world had feelings like she had feelings. Dramaqueen. I kept wanting to slap the crap out of her.
I’d read this one only once before this read. I did enjoy it again. Trying to get my daughter to read it but she’s at the age where if I like it she will hate it just on principal so I’m not forcing it on her too much.
New movie coming out this November (2005). I am going to go see it if only to see P&P on the big screen. I really love the Colin Firth/Jennifer Ehle version. Why can’t they show that instead. :-)
Shades of Pemberly.
’’I do not see that! WHY should I see that? WHY should THAT be??’‘
Next up: Sense and Sensibility
In spite of the dramatic title all I’ve done is check out Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility from the library.
whoo hooo
