Help Alex sleep through the night

After 8.5 months of being up 5 to 7 times each night the husband & I have finally convinced Alex to sleep in his own crib from 8:30pm until 4am every night for the last ten nights! I wish he were the average “sleeps 8pm to 8am” kid but I guess his lack of a need for much sleep will be helpful later in life. I am so proud of him for taking our cues!

Yesterday, the morning after his first night of 8 hours’ sleep, the baby wasn’t all that interested in nursing. By evening my left breast hurt so much I thought I’d have to pop it like a balloon. I went to sleep with a heating pad on it and in the night woke up and thought it was REALLY swollen because I forgot there was a heat pack in my bra! Turned out it was better – the heat must have done the trick. Anyway, he slept for over 8 hours in a row AGAIN! Hooray! Two nights ago was one of his worst nights ever (up every hour and a half) – so I am trying not to see this as a permanent thing. But I am enjoying it!

Alex somehow slept through the night! We put him down at 8:30 and he cried for about two minutes and then went to sleep before we could even make it upstairs to comfort him. He didn’t get up until 6am! We thought he might be dead. My breasts felt like water balloons. I’m so proud. He may never do it again but it was very nice to get sleep!
