How I did it: I just got a refund check from my student loans, and used some birthday money and BAM! I have a gorgeous iMac. It is an amazing upgrade from the Dell I had [I had the Dell for a year... and it stopped working! wowoww] But Apple products rule. And if you're a designer or photographer, you must do it!! I got a Tax refund from the Aussie Government and SHAZAM! New Mac, I have done so much work on it since upgrading from my Dell and it has begun to make me money!
Actually after I do two more hours of design work on it – it would have paid for itself!

I just hosted a telethon for me to get a computer, had every family member call and chip in, then once i got their money in a few weeks,went to the apple store and voila! Now I have a great mac, and I made 1299 total. Also, get applecare becuase I have had lots of repairs with mine (4).
I really need a new computer, so my job this summer will be devoted to getting this beautiful new Mac! :D

At some point I learned that the newest iPhone SDK requires an Intel Mac. This jacks the price of the computer I would need up by about two orders of magnitude. (Unfortunately my lady friend’s mini, although very young, is a PowerPC.)
