Kind of dirty and dangerous. But it does have a lot of culture and hotspots to offer. IMHO, Unless you have friends/family or go to school in the area, then i’d say yes. Otherwise, move someplace a little more safe and appealing.
like Seattle
How I did it: Once my mind was made up, I just went for it. Sent out resumes, spend two weeks in Philly interviewing and looking for houses. Went back home, packed up, and headed out!
Lessons & tips: Be careful with housing. Know the area you are moving to. Save money before hand... it is an expensive move!

i was supposed to go tomorrow to see a place but they haven’t bothered to call me back. It’s a really great place! I’ve been fantasizing a lot about it.
I want to keep my apt. in NYC but have one there too. Getting really sick of NYC. Stay tuned!
One hard thing about looking for a place from another state is not really knowing the neighborhoods. Maybe I’ll check on 43places.
I, too, am thinking of moving to Philly. Grew up in central/western PA but have lived my whole adult life in big cities outside of the state. Really miss PA but need the city. Sooo … thinking Philly. (Would like to be near all the east coast stuff.) How are the rest of you transplants liking it? You hear such horror stories … seems a little scary. Would love to the perspectives of those who have already moved there. Thanks!
I just hired at the University of Pennsylvania, so I will be moving from Ohio to PA next Wednesday! I really love the apartment I found, but I am so not looking forward to buying IKEA furniture and putting it together – regular furniture will not fit up the stairs!
of course, now that I am nearly positive that I will be living in Philadelphia as of August, I am so upset that I am not living in NYC instead. Not that I could afford that at all, most likely, but it would indeed be wonderful.
I need to start shopping for pots & pans, utensils, chairs, tables, desks, etc. By shopping I mean: cruising the streets on bulk trash night. Hopefully people will be putting out some good things!
To go to Temple
I stayed when I was done, and I love Philly
I am going to miss it!
