How I did it: Simply talked to the recruiters for all branches of the military, the Army had the best package and could guarantee you a specific job instead of a field that they would put you in. Do your research, ask questions, dive in. Read how I did it…

I have never been intrested in the army, I have always thought of it as a mans thing. But once i came accross the army website, i took a look, and thought it would be a great challenge for me.
I have no self confidence to join but i am willing to build it up and join. I have not yet sent of my application as i would like some advie on what to do, and how it all works. The phone calls from them and the whole thing of getting in. My worst is interviews and the 1st day, where to go what to do and say. Im 17 and to be honest im really excited about hearing back from others and joining, i want to be able to be independant as i am living with my parents still, and to achive goals and reach targets. The thought of the army is that if i do join and i get accepted, i would be able to experiane new and diffrent things around diffrent people, and put my self to the challenge as i have never done anything like this before.
I like what you have all said which helps me learn more, but i would also like to know about the small things, the accomodation, the pay, the challenges, and about the recruiter, I have no i deal where to find one of them. so any thing you can help me out with. ill be more than happy with.
Thanks
The process in our country takes time. I’ve cleared the written examinations, will face the SSB next. SSB is the selection board that conducts psychological, physical and mental tests+interviews. After the SSB will be the medical and the verification. I have to make it through.
AaminahRaks theres so much that I want to do right now, its so overwhelming!!
I’ve always wanted to enlist. Most of the men in my family are either currently in the army, retired out or they gave their lives in battle. Im really thinking this may be the year I do it. Im just trying to wrap my brain around leaving my family, my job, my friends, and my dancing behind for a period of time.
I don’t really know what I want to do as a career but I do know I want to have a job that is exciting and I like going to everyday. My life could use a little discipline and some order.
I’ve been ready and willing for more than 3 months now, but i’m STILL waiting to take my physical. The MEPS station screwed up my paperwork for med-read, so i’m waiting on my recruiter to send them a letter or two.
All because i broke my tooth when i was in 2nd grade.

I joined the army a couple years ago. I cannot really say whether or not it was worth it yet, as I am still in the Army, so I am morally and legally obligated to reserve judgement until I am a civilian again :).
Its demanding work (expect stupid hours), it pays comparatively very little, but of course, it has great benefits. you are in the habit of picking your employment based on benefit packages, the Army has some very attractive ones. But be forewarned, you should not join the Army thinking its just another job… because it isnt. Its a lifestyle, with a strict, oft times, bewildering standards, and it will necessarily take the wheel for a while, while you ride shotgun watching it drive you to wherever it is that it needs you.
Right before you enlist, everything you do in relation to the military is about YOU. You are given the opportunity to engineer your contract so that the longterm benefits are all yours. Shortly after you join though, it is made clear to you that the army is not about YOU. The contrast is very stark, very real, and is too much for some people to hack. You are given plenty of opportunity to resend your contract while you are in initial training, and if you have any significant doubts about your ability to adhere to it, you had better take those opportunities and reconsider your life.
Some places the Army takes you, will warm the cockles of your heart with hooah hooah espirit de corp, brotherhood, fellowship, and altruistic community values. Other places will make you feel like you have been sent to some sort of mental institution for the criminally and socially stupid.
Where ever it takes you though, if you do decide to do such a thing, know that while the Army has its own best interests in mind first and foremost, it provides you with what you need to take care of yourself, and your family, and provides ample opportunity for you to blossom into a successful respectable human being. It is of course, up to you to employ these tools. Its not your mommy, or your daddy, its the military.
