learn to navigate by the stars

i have walked through the desert knowing my direction by following the north star, but that’s not particularly hard. my studies had definitely helped me survive though. i guess my ultimate goal for navigation is being stuck at sea and being able to correctly (at least roughly) get to New Jersey or another specific place.

i would like you to help me find a web page that can isually help me learn to navigate with the stars at night.

It would be nice, and then when I am camping I could worry less about getting lost on night hikes. ;) It’s win win!

Well, there is a pleasant suprise. Old Sextants are really cheap on EBay.

Using old technology and a large sailing ship, sail out of sight of land and to a place across the ocean, say 3 days sail away. And not get lost doing it using only the stars.

I’ve always wanted to do this, but never bothered.

Before I can navigate by the stars, I guess I need to learn the stars. So…starting tonight, I’m going outside and identifying one constellation per night (we’ll see how long this lasts).
