I have no hobbies, and would love to do this… might need to change my work hours to fit this in though.

How I did it: My mother taught me basic stitches when I was very young, and in junior high, I decided to take a sewing fundamentals course. It was very easy, and we mostly used sewing machines, but we also learned a variety of hand stitches. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Well, I decided I wanted to make a skirt to wear to a concer I was going to the next day so I made up a design and cut up a bunch of old t-shirts and had my mom teach me how to work the sewing machine, It was fun and I love my skirt Read how I did it…

Lynn is busy learning what it means to be an urban homesteader!
I saw an idea for making a half apron from a pillowcase at Simple Green Frugal Co-Op. I’ve been wanting an apron for a long time and it sounds like a good beginner project using inexpensive materials. Posting this link so I can try it when I’m ready :)

I want to learn how to sew simple things… making napkins, table clothes, patching pants and making clothing last longer. Also want to learn to use my mother’s sewing machine properly, that will also help.
I don’t know if embroidery is a form of sewing, but it is similiar. I hope to use my grandmother’s teachings as a foundation to help.

I’ve got loads I want to make:
- A slanket
- a bag
- baby shoes for my boyfriend’s soon to be niece or nephew :)
- a dress
- a laptop cover
- a wall organiser
I even got a pattern for a dress and my boyfriend got me the material I need for my birthday :) but I still haven’t started. I think it’s because I’ve got so much I want to make I don’t know where to start.
Around christmas I made a bright orange stocking for my boyfriend (his favourite colour) and I made a dress for a fancy dress night out at uni which turned out pretty good. So I’ve had practise I just need to get back on the wagon!
I dont wanna be a fashion designer or anything. I just wanna be able to fix or slightly alter my clothes. But maybe one day I’ll be really good at it. Who knows? Knitting also goes under here.
I know how to use a sewing machine, but I’ve always wanted to make an actual garment. I want to be as talented as the people on Project Runway :)
...bought me a sewing machine for my birthday…so onward with this goal…yay!!!
creativekitty BACK ON 43THINGS!!!
Today I used a bamboo stick and cut it up to make some feet for my dressmakers dummy stand! I bought the dummy cheap off ebay because it had no feet and could only be used on a table top. For a time I thought what on earth I’m I going to do to make some feet for this thing?! And it came to me today.
Now I can stand it up properly and I’m really pleased! Now all I need is some fabric and I’d also like to purchase a really easy pattern, and then I shall have a proper go at making my own clothes! First though, This week I’m going to have a go at making a yoga mat bag for my pilates mat :)

I think this is a really good skill to have. I’d like to be a little bit housewifey (I’m terrible at being domesticated!). I’d really like to be able to make my own clothes. The only thing is sewing machines scare me :/ but I suppose I’ll just have to get over it!

My local ACE program has a sewing class for beginners. I’ll have to wait until next year because I am taking Spanish this year.
