We’ve become too accustomed to quick fixes. Its so easy to throw something out and replace it with something new. We do it all the time with shoes, televisions, iPods, cookware. New is always the best, and old, well its just tired and boring.
Unfortunately things like bridges, and steam pipes, and runways do need to be maintained. Spending a few million dollars on maintenance isn’t very exciting; its definitely not as exciting as a ribon cutting ceremony that precedes the opening of a new structure. But it is neccessary. While the I-35 collapse has pretty much fallen out of the headlines, the problem for which it was a symptom still exists. 5 years ago
