LunaGood as new - Goal done

Uma wasn’t too happy that I “abandoned her” for a couple hours at the vet’s office this morning. Her itchy skin required not one but two baths that the vet recommended: one for fleas (!) and one medicinal to target her dry skin.

I was shocked about the fleas since she didn’t have them the day before —I regularly check her when I pet her. I used to be on top of fleas, ticks, and heart worm back when we were living in the Caribbean, both her and Gala. However, I haven’t treated Uma for them since I moved here to Cholula, as my vet from Tulum (sea level) told me that those parasites are not a problem in these very-high altitudes (2,100m).

Well, my Cholula vet just smiled and said it wasn’t a problem if I lived in a big city. But here in Cholula where there are goats, cows, horses, lambs, turkeys, etc., in our backyards and roaming the streets, it is a problem.

So that’s done. She also had her nails clipped (which is the worst torture for her) and was given the quintuple vaccine and a couple pills for her inner parasites, so she got a “full service” today, and she is good as new :o) 3 years ago

bellewitchWell He Didn' t Cough Once At The Vets

but the xray showed problems. So Spunky got a shot of prednisone and we have antibiotics to apply. We may need to do more prednisone… because, he started to cough again when he got home. Obviously the trigger is here somewhere. He was still a bit woozy from his light anesthesia, so we all just took a nap.

I hope it resolves in the coming days. The pollens here have been awful lately.

bellewitchDog Asthma

as in, my dog has asthma. I had no idea that this could occur in a dog, but it can. Here is the 411

http://www.pets.ca/pettips/pet-tip-123.htm

So, our sweet boy will be home in about 3 hours. He has to recover from anesthesia that was used to do his xrays. He has been given a shot of prednisone and because his larynx is irritated, he will get antibiotics.

Next up ? Find the trigger. Here is a blog that looks at flora
http://vwgarden.blogspot.com/2009/04/sensible-approach-to-plant-pollen.html

I have no showy plants out in the back, being as I am allergic to bees.. badly. Anyhow, it has been a bad tree pollen year on Long Island and now the Grass is up. I bet it is something in the house though. Possibly what I launder the other dogs bed with ?
Well we are going totally hypoallerginic now.

It is somewhat ironic that the Belleboys are all asthmatic.
We even have a nebulizer. What are the chances of that.

So this one is Almost done ! :) 3 years ago

bellewitchhe Is there Now...

anxious Mommy is drumming her fingers and has the house lit up like a candle cathedral. Waiting on a call.

Greta will not move. But it is raining and well, she is a low belly. I don’t blame her. Though I will coax her now.

I took all the ingredients off of the dog food Spunky eats, and also the package of treats he had just started. I sure hope it is nothing serious. That would suck.

I am amazed when I find Greta still with us every day. (Which is why I don’t always check first thing to be honest…)

If I were to lose them both ? I cannot imagine.

I doubt I will ever be healthy enough to have another dog. :( 3 years ago

bellewitchWe Have An Appointment Tomorrow

For Spunky the overweight Maxi doxi. He has a cough like he wants to yak up a furball. Maybe he does have a furball, he sure does lick alot. Mostly his feet.

I think it is anxiety and perhaps allergies. OR, a piece of rawhide stuck in his throat (he has done this before). I idiot dog Mother, did buy some new fangled treats, and since he is portly, I only give him a teeny bit in the AM after he goes out.

There are Others in my house who are “enablers.” They will feed him (and his older Sister, the Pie Queen, Greta) tablescraps.
Then they wonder why the dogs stalk them. Bad boys that live here.

So Spunky will go to my wonderful vet. Get some sedation, and have a chest/throat xray. I really hope it is nothing chronic or is not a heart condition of some sort. Being portly would lend itself to a heart condition.

I feel it could be anxiety. Why ? Well because I am the alpha dog, and I get him. He has had a very difficult time watching his boys move away. He didn’t recognize Son 2 when he recently came home. I think the coughing began when that happened. But I was having my own Medical crises, and was probably not paying good attention.

My biggest fears:
Heart condition
Collapsing esophagus
Epilepsy.

My hunch ?
Anxiety disorder.

Well I will burn a brown candle now… 3 years ago

LunaGood, healthy dog :)

I finally took Uma to the vet yesterday —just a week before her yearly shots were due. The doctor was very sweet with her, and commented on her overall good health :) Because of Seattle’s weather, she doesn’t need anything for heart worm and ticks ::YAY!!:: She got her “medal” for her rabies shot.

So she’ll be in tip-top shape, I’ll just need to follow his advice on:
  • applying a preventive for fleas
  • brush her teeth more often
  • trim her nails
  • help her lose some weight (about 3kg) 5 years ago

BuistyHe needs a lot.

His last visit was pretty good. He’s pretty healthy except for a heart murmur, which the vet said I shouldn’t worry too much unless he’s getting surgery. He needs to get fixed though.
He even wrote this poem on his Facebook page:

“dont cut my nads
this make me sad
i like to lick them bad”

:)

There are some other things I’m a bit concerned about too and he needs to get his regular vaccination, which he’s allergic too. But seriously, other than that, he’s in good condition. Some people think pugs are supposed to be overweight but they’re not. King is a good healthy size. 5 years ago

LunaASAP

I need to take Uma to the vet asap, since we’re already in summer, and she is not protected against fleas, ticks, and heart worm.

Back in Tulum, due to the hot weather, I used to take her and Gala to the vet every 6 weeks for their shots. But here in Seattle, I must admit I’ve slacked off a bit since I don’t have to administer the shots that frequently, but they have to be administered sometime nonetheless.

And look at her… doesn’t she deserve my best? :o) 5 years ago

aschneeYippee!

The good thing about waiting for a while is that my dog forgot about the shots! Now she’s up to date. 6 years ago
