I’ve been working in California since last year, and it is soon over, but I’ll try to find an other position here, I love it so much.
kahurangi should probably be doing some work. Yessur
If everything goes to plan (saving, paying off my student loan and being on the right tax code – so I don’t get stung by a huge assed fee) next year I will be in NYC on the one year working visa you get if you’re a tertiary student…
I’m pretty excited :)
Ok people, here’s the dillema. I currently work in education in a mentor / advice / guidance role and love it. I’m planning on changing jobs soon so that I can progress as unfortunately I can’t stay in my first Graduate job forever. I want a job in education (but probably not teaching) where I’m out and about and not stuck in an office all day – I couldn’t think of anything worse. I want to feel like I’m actually making a difference and helping others, as this is what gives me most satisfaction. I want to earn at least £23,000 a year. Call me optimistic but I need a decent salary so I can move out and buy my own place (something else on my list!) I also want to live and work abroad. I know it’ll be hard work and not a bed of roses, that I’ll be homesick and that it’ll take me a while to settle in, but I want to do it. I speak Spanish, not fluently but I can get by, so moving to Spain would be wonderful. I’ve discounted TEFL (sort of) basically because now that I’m on the career ladder I don’t want to come off it, and this would be a stop gap job, right? I’ve come up with the idea of working in a school for English students abroad. What do people think? A quick google search has come up with loads of schools, so I’m going to blanket send my cv and a letter to those that look decent. I’m 24 and know that if I don’t work abroad now that I’m planning on moving jobs I’ll never do it, as if I stay here I’ll get tied down with mortgages and things. I have a Masters degree and am qualified in advice and guidance. Without sounding pretentious, I’m a highly qualified person so I need a job that reflects that. Or is it worth taking a job that I can do standing on my head just for the experience? Or can I make a career out of working abroad, in whatever job, so should I look for a more permanent move? Any advice people can give me, whether it be in the form of useful websites, suggestions on job roles, personal experiences, places, things or companies you can recommend, would all be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
i regret that I never studied abroad in college. hopefully i can realize that and get paid. my parents thought I was nuts when I started talking about this… and then I just dropped it.
There is nothing like traveling and knowing that you don’t have to go home because your income is still coming in. I’ve gotten a lot of information on how to do this from http://www.nunomad.com Last year I’ve been through 3 different countries and maintaining my work while I’ve had the time of my life!
I’ve lived and worked in a couple of countries… Holland was one. I definetly reccomend it to EVERYONE! in this day and age if you havent lived and worked in more than 2 or 3 places then you really havened lived at all !
Good ideas for others thinking of doing the same.
Option 1 – get good at something and go do it in different countries eg; accountant or manager
Option 2 – Scuba diving – get to travel and visit the worlds best tropical paradises
option 3 – teaching – go teach english to kids in china or korea or africa and contribute to global society
Legends are born this way !!
Both good questions. The truth is i don’t know. I’m not even sure it matters, but it has to happen!
