How I did it: For 18 years i would only "swim" where my feet touched the ground. so one day i bought a swim suit and went to a lake with my sister. I started to move back and forth i almost cried and she took me into deeper water and told me to calm down and pretend that the ground is a foot below me and if i cant swim i cand find the ground and walk. so i calmed down strted with just floating on my back i didnt even notice i was swimming until i was a… Read how I did it…

I’ve decided that I’m gunna do it this time. My kids are good swimmers so I’m going to learn in secret so that I can surprise them when we go on holiday in September.
I’m very nervous, will this be enough time to learn?

Yesterday we drove out to White Rock to go swimming with my parents. Markus dropped Isak and I off at the pool (he’s had a strong aversion to swimming since childhood) and in we went. I honestly can’t remember the last time I was at a pool. It’s been years. Years and years.
The kiddie pool was very nice & warm, and a decent size. I’d hop out to do a few laps in the main pool while my parents played with Isak (I’d brought the little inflatable car/boat which was a huge hit) and then go back to play some more. I felt a bit self conscious at first, but it passed. And the suit was great.
This brought back how much I loved swimming when I was a kid, pretending I was a mermaid, holding my breath as long as I could, falling backwards, the slippery slides, the first time braving the high dive… I wish I’d gone earlier, especially with Isak, I’ve been wanting to take him swimming since he was a baby. He had a lot more fun and was a lot more confident this time (he went last weekend too) so now I’m looking into kid’s swimming classes.
On the way out, my mom gave me a book of local swim tickets that she won’t be using, so I’m hoping I can use those at the pool near here (on second glance, I realize they’re for seniors, maybe they’ll let me pay the extra?). I WILL do this again. It was definitely worth it, and I’m giving myself a little pat on the back for managing to do this the same week I came home with a suit instead of putting it off for another 10 years. Yay!
(Now if I could just get M to come too…)
laupre is spring cleaning!
I’ll need a new bathing suit first, maybe I should sew one?
80 lengths without stopping this morning! I’m going to work up to a hundred now – with 2 very short rests..
My girlfriend is talking about taking me to the coast and seeing the ocean…
I don’t know how the SWIM! The ocean is literally going to suck me in, I know it.
I gotta learn how to swim. And swim well.
This may take a while.

that’s over 1.5km every morning, very pleased with myself. I’m going to try to up it to 100 (2km) over the next month or two. I just takes a bit longer but I don’t feel exhausted after doing 80.

Everybody! I can swim! But I want to go swimming again because I haven’t gone in a while! That’s what I mean by ‘swim’. K? K.
Bye….................
I’m up to 70 lengths every morning now and my strokes are much better so it’s actually much easier. It’s such a great way to start the day.
