I’d love to have pretty nails. I’m slightly embarassed when I look at my nails. They’re so thin and transparent that even a little bit of dirt shows right through. They’re thin so that they chip and crack all the time.
I imagine that I’m going to feel really grown up when they look neat and tidy.
But I’m scared to get gels or acrylics as I don’t know whether they’ll cause damage to my nails, which as you’ve guessed are very weak.

Keep forgetting about this one.
Nail polish should do the trick.

The only way I will ever have nice nails is if I get them done professionally. So that’s what I’ve done; and I plan on keeping them filled in.

I am giving up on having nice, natural nails, so instead I’m going to get nice, fake nails, and keep them that way. I tend to be fickle in the artifical department, getting acrylics taken off every so often, leaving my nails brittle. In fact, my nails are just now healing after having fake nails removed in December. But, being self conscious, I am off to have some put back on, a la French manicure this time. And instead of taking them off when they start looking haggard, I’m simply going to have them filled in. Let’s see how long this will last…

On an impulse I walked into a manicurist’s shop on the way to an interview. Now I have very small, but perfectly formed french tipped nails. I’m totally mesmerised by them.
Sadly the job was yuck.

I thought this would be easy. The idea was to have the occasional small win to encourage me to keep plugging away at the longer term multi-layered things. It’s turning out to require attention and commitment.
Wandering around outside late yesterday, i noticed yet another fine crop of weeds, so in a mad fit of “Make my garden nice” I started hoiking them about. Result, tell tale grot under the nails and one threatening to rip off across a fleshy bit – now patched with super glue and tape. I hope it holds up, if it rips it’s going to hurt and slow me down.
I’m not sure I can be bothered with this goal, it’s not really compatible with every thing else. I guess part of the point of being one of the groomed people is to look like you have a team of gardeners, painters, skylight installers, sorters, tidiers and fixer uppers etc etc on hand. Until I win the lottery or some other massive injection of funds, the chances of that happening seem pretty remote.

I’d like to be one of those groomed people. Not forever, just for fun. My fingernails are always short, they chip and crack all the time. i’d like to have pretty manicured nails, not talons though, just less “no frills”.
I never wear gloves when I wash up and do chores, and only sometimes when I’m gardening. I really only wear them then because I don’t like the idea of grabbng a spider (the Ozzie ones can be pretty fierce).
I could do the glove thing, let my nails grow a bit then go to a manicurist. I don’t want those fake acrylic things though. I had them years ago and it felt like I was jamming hard lumps of plastic into my quicks when I was keyboarding- which actually i was. Plus they were so thick it felt like I had chopsticks grafted onto my hands where my fingers ought to be. Then I freaked out about their chemicalness, maybe a disgusting fungus would grow under there, so I gnawed them off, like a coyote escaping a trap. My finger nails were so thin and hypersensitive for ages after that – yuck.
So maybe just french tips, I’ll try not to wreck them for a whole month. I’d better come up with some loftier aspirations to balance this one out.
