but I most certainly was not certified to do so. I didn’t go that deep. I also went snorkeling at Hanama Bay in Hawaii and it was AMAZING! I want to do more.
How I did it: I said 'yes.' A co-worker was planning a trip to the Philippines to take a scuba certification course for 5 days and he asked if I wanted to go. I had meticulously planned my previous 3 vacations, but had yet figured out what I was going to do during this one. I said 'yes'. Randomly, without thinking about it. Then I didn't turn back, and I'm glad I didn't. Totally worth it. Scuba diving is amazing and the Philippines was gorgeous!
Lessons & tips: Relax. Do it. Go. Pay the money. Take the time off. It is worth it. Learn to say 'yes' more!

I just qualified as a PADI Open Water Diver having said for years that I would and doing nothing about it. Very excited and very proud!

i am a terrible swimmer and have always been leery of being in the water … but i had always wanted to try diving. i found a terrific instructor who was patient and encouraging, and as i did it more and gained awareness and experience (and confidence) at my own pace, i fell in love with the creatures you can see and capturing what i could through underwater photography.
if you want to do it, go for it!!!

so i’m getting SCUBA certified because my best friend and her husband (who both attended USAFA) are both certified and we want to start taking annual cruise trips together. Any suggestions on the cheapest time of year to take a cruise?

I’m going to take some time off of work and complete this goal in California this Summer. My friend who lives there is a certified instructor and will work with me personally and take me on the dives. I’m really excited about this!

I took this off my list a month ago because I didn’t think I could do this with my spinal problems. After talking to an instructor and finding ways I can still do this, I have put it back on my list

I’ve had too many back surgeries and have too many back problems to have an air tank attached to me so I’m gonna have to stick to snorkeling

As I’m researching this I just might have to give up on this goal. I’ve had 3 major back surgeries and my back is unstable so I might not be able to carry a tank on and will have to consider snorkeling at best.

My mom lives on a boat in Long Beach, CA and her and her husband are regular SCUBA divers. I want to become certified so I can join them on their next excursion.
I am now officially Scuba certified but I want to continue on with my rescue certification.
