Putting this goal on the back burner until I have the means to be truly philanthropic. For now, I give to various charities in my community.

We are definitely not well-off… I would say we’re not even remotely “comfortable” but when I saw American Idol last week and I remembered how my kids are always asking for more-more-more, it made me think.
There is so much more that we could be doing.
We give used toys to those less fortunate as with our old clothes and I teach the kids about appreciating everything we have but I know that there is more we could do…
Volunteering in our community would certainly bring smiles and teach my children a valuable lesson in the process.
I will be looking into various things we can do…
I’ll keep you posted.
SEGSID, a great member of our 43community, is participating in a 5K run/walk to raise money for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. You can read her story and support the cause here.
If you want to do something philantropic, the most effective way is to find ways to apply skills you already have. In my case, I developed a computer system for a child welfare organisation.
I would setup trusts to send a few underprivileged kids to college every year. I would also setup some kind of program to help high school kids to find motivation to pursue their true calling in life…
I would also give to community theatre and music projects, perhaps building a few scattered auditoriums to encourage people in communities to get to know each other by participating in putting on productions.
