This is a ”...before I die” goal. No way this starts inside 2 years. One day, though.

How I did it: I got a crazy idea in my head to compete in a triathlon, looked up when the closest one was that I had time to prepare for, trained until race day, and then gave it my best! My time was 1:15:00!750yd swim, 15 mile bike, and 5k run. Read how I did it…

How I did it: Three months of training. I had always been a runner, and somewhat used to biking, but swimming was a challenge. The water was 56 degrees so my form was quite sloppy, couldn't wait to get out! Running after a long bike ~ now that's an all new sensation. Definitely worth the effort . . . the best shape of my life! Read how I did it…
How I did it: Signed up for a race in Wisconsin. Joined the YMCA in my hometown and trained my ass off for a month. I am a terrible swimmer and a godawful runner, but a strong cyclist. I could have used a few more weeks of training. Read how I did it…

8 days and counting, until race day! My training is going really well. My last swim day felt great and yesterdat was a brick day and it went good as well. I’m feeling fast, stronger, and more prepared for my 1st triathlon everyday. Starting today, my training is easing up a little bit to help my body recover and get ready for the upcomming trial. It is so close now, I’m super excited!

I’ve been keeping up with my training and everything’s going well. I’m really excited about 9-12, this is going to be a great race!

I’m registered for the triathlon on Sept. 12, the hotel for the night before, and my wife and I are both off work! All I’ve got now is time, and I’ll need that to train. Yesterday, I refurbished my bike (it had fallen into some disrepair), and did my first Brick workout, where I biked for 30 minutes and then ran for 10 minutes. My legs were killing me, but when it was all done I felt great. The day before that I swam for 400 yards; today I’m running for 30 minutes, and tomorrow will be another Brick workout. It is really going to happen and I’m super excited.

I’ve just joined USA Triathlon, and plan to do my first Triathlon on Sept. 12. I’ve already started training and it feels great! I’m super excited.
After ‘sitting around’ for the past few decades, I decided to be proactive towards achieving one of my goals…competing in a triathlon. I’ve been training now for the past two months, mostly in biking, and running (hasn’t been warm enough to enjoy swimming).
I actually live next to one of these ‘rail-trail’ things (where an obsolete railroad track was converted into a pedestrian trail), so I can easily bike or run several miles in either direction.
The thing I’m most surprised about has been my running (I’ve always had problems with sore knees). My times during the past two months have been dropping dramatically.
A great resource website I’ve come across is www.My-Triathlon-Training.com.
I hope you enjoy it.
irieman is taking it one day at a time.
Last weekend a friend and I did another 5k, which I’m actually starting toget pretty good at. This same event featured a 1/2 marathon (approx. 13 miles). The week prior, we were at another 5k which was part of the LA Marathon.
The winner of the LA Marathon came in at a little over 2 hours, and the guy who won the 1/2 marathon came in a little over 1 hour. For the record, that’s about 13 miles an hour folks! but I digress!
Most non-pro runners are completing a full marathon in 3-5 hours. It was when I realized this, that I also realized that I get bored too easily, to be running for much longer than an hour! My long-term goal of completing a marathon no longer excites me, so I have to look into other things, hence a triathlon.
We’ll see how that goes!
Jamba Juice Lanikai Triathlon, Kailua, 19 April—too soon.
Honolulu Triathlon, Honolulu, 17 May—maybe.
North Shore Triathlon, 7 June, no excuses not to be there.
Tinman Triathlon, 19 July – need more info.
I have no legitimate excuses not to do this. I live in Hawaii—“Ironman” country!
Okay, I live on wimpy Oahu, not the Big Island. But still…
First step will be to get the dates for the local events.
Then swim.
And either get my bike in shape, or get a new bike.
Timeline: in 2009.
I’m planning to do a mini-triathlon this Summer. I figure if I start training now I should have enough time to get in shape for it. My friend is interested in doing it with me, so I think that will be great encouragement and motivation for the both of us. Does anyone know of any workout plans that help you train for a triathlon?
