I just got it in the mail yesterday!! I played some music with my friends last night, and I’m gonna try to look for a drum circle to play with. I love it =]
How to be part of a drum circle

How I did it: I bought a drum online, waited for it to come, and then joined up with a drum circle in Minneapolis. I still haven't played with them yet, but it looks really fun! They had a few sessions this summer, but I don't know if they will again for a while.
Lessons & tips: Don't out-do yourself when you're buying a drum. Check with the group to see if they have extras that you could try before making an investment.

I finally figured out why my drum was taking so long!! It was backordered over in Africa, and it wouldn’t have gotten here until after I leave for college. I switched my order over the phone, and a different (better!) drum is on its way! I’m so excited! I’m gonna go play in the Mall of America with some friends next week.

The drum is taking forever to deliver. It’s kind of sad, because it didn’t come in time for any of the bonfires that were planned. I’ll have to plan one at my house :)

I just bought a djembe online! I’m so excited! it looks beautiful. it sounds beautiful. it’s perfect! I’ve heard it gets shipped really quickly too, so I might have it for a bonfire tomorrow night! it’s happening!

I was part of drum circle before… a few times, actually. It was one of the most moving, empowering things I’ve ever done. I suppose it also depends on who you do it with. Everyone in the circle was very accepting. We passed around a spirit stick before drumming, and said a prayer. Some people cried, and nobody made a big deal out of it. It was SO great. Some people got up and danced and “hooted” during the session.
I strongly, strongly recommend it to all ages.

In Mexico I had the opportunity to have a drum lesson and be part of a drum circle with my fellow beginning drummers. This weekend at Worldfest, a music festival in Grass Valley, I had two more lessons and several opportunities to play. I would really like to purchase a drum and join the drum circle in Golden Gate Park. Why not?
