Andy is tired.
It’s always looked like fun.
How I did it: Both times I've done this I was on vacation. In Australia I saw a brochure and thought it would be fun. It was a half-hour flight that let you see Ayer's Rock and the Olgas from the air. Very memorable!
In Maui I arranged it at the hotel and then drove out to the airport. That flight was longer (an hour I think) and we flew to the West Maui Mountains and out over the island of Molokai. The pilot was great and took extra time to show us closer views of things that caught our eyes.
Lessons & tips: If you get motion sickness be sure to take some dramamine or use a scopolamine patch. Helicopters tend to be much more susceptible to wind buffeting.
Did it today…
My brother in law is a helicopter pilot, and he took us from the airfield of Schaffen to the Heli airport of Paramount. Thanks Dietmar !
As part of some corporate awards thing in Las Vegas, one of the things we had the option to do was a full tour via helicopter. Jumped right on that.
The flight took off from the Las Vegas airport, went out over Lake Las Vegas, the Hoover (Boulder) dam, up the Grand Canyon and landed on a little bluff deep inside the canyon. We had a champagne picnic there and then flew back with a run down the strip.
Out of a group of about 25, only one person got motion sickness. If you are prone to that, I’d stay away, but otherwise, game on!
I’ve done this. I freaked. I don’t remember when I did it though. I believe it was in Wisconsin Dells.
My parents have a video tape of me like screaming mostly through the whole tour. LOL.
I posted about my first time touring Hawaii’s Big Island but we did it a second time…a year ago near Queenstown, New Zealand. They dropped just the two of us on a mountain peak with a picnic lunch on a blanket, a 2-way radio, a couple of jackets (in case it got chilly), and a superb view for a few hours …unbelievable!!!!!!!!!
I have never flown in a helicopter – would like to try at least once in my lifetime
i love flying and have been on planes countless times, but never on a helicopter. i´m so curious how it´s different!
Did this several times in Germany, and most recently from Monaco to Nice Airport (Heli Air Monaco) this past weekend. What a thrilling way to spend 7 minutes of your life over the Mediterranean.
