Take the Geisha Walking Lecture

The Geisha Walking Lecture was worth the money. Peter Macintosh, the guide, takes you on a tour through Gion. He pointed out things that I would never have noticed – unassuming tea houses, lesson schedules for classes like dance and shamisen written up in chalk outside a school, hairdressers and other businesses that geisha frequent. For me the real highlight was having the chance to take photos on a quiet street, as many maiko (trainee geisha) departed for their evening engagements.

Yesterday...... 2 years ago

.... was the day for our lecture walk.

Snicks, Ume, CapNemo, B & I met up with Peter McIntosh who is married to a Geisha. They own a bar in which they host Geisha parties….. This photo is of Peter in that bar…

Even though we have been through the Gion district on several occasions, this walk was amazing in that we saw so many different things through the eyes of someone who lives and breathes this district. Signage that we would have had no idea of the meanings – the area where Geisha do their training – even some scenes from “Memoirs of a Geisha”.... and best of all seeing quite a large group of Geisha going to a very exclusive party Saturday night. They looked absolutely beautiful – very elegant and regal….

This was SO worth doing….....

Ume.. 2 years ago

... suggested this walk with an english guide. It looks quite amazing. It will be wonderful to get some inside knowledge, and be able to fully understand it. Thanks Ume!!
