live in my own apartment

I want to live in my own apartment. With a room of my own. And walls painted any color I’d like, or at least with art I like hanging on the walls. And sofas that I have picked out. And a fridge filled with foods that I like!

I want it all.

I think I really just want an apartment of my own that feels like a room of my own. Something that totally belongs to me.

I lived alone for the first time in December 2007. I found an apartment and was SUPER excited!! I had nothing to put in it and I had to start right from scratch. Now its over filled with stuff and I had so much fun filling it and putting up my pictures.

I live in a two-bedroom apartment with a roommate, but I feel it’s time that I live on my own for the first time in 28 years. My current lease is up March 31st of this year which means I have little time to prepare for the search and succeed.

My credit is absolutely horrid, but it has been steadily rising up in the last year. My first task is to make sure my credit report is clean and accurate.

My second task is to try and get the most amenities for under $750 a month. I’m looking for a one-bedroom with: living/dining combo
full kitchen with dishwasher
as many utilities included in the rent as I can get
close to the el
laundry on site
a bike room or storage locker
a decent view
bright and sunny (which means no garden apartments)
and did I mention under $750?

That’s a long list of demands, but not only do I feel I deserve it, but also I feel it’s probable. The apartment agency that found my current apartment could probably do it again. So, I’ll make my apointment with them for the first week of February.

only eat low calorie food and sing out loud

My boyfriend and I decided to move into a house with a few friends.. we’ll be moving September 1st. So many crazy things are happening! It sucks because Ozzfest is on the 30th.. so we’ll be out of town until the first at about 6 in the morning, NO SLEEP, and then driving back and forth across Tallahassee moving shit.

But I’m definitely looking forward to it! I mean it’s not my OWN apartment, but it’s my only choice at the moment. And it will definitely be helping one of my other goals, which is reducing my environmental footprint. Living with 2 other couples and another person will save so much on everything. Especially entertainment.. who needs to go out to the houka bar or go out to eat or go out to see movies when you can entertain yourself with your roomates?

The lease is over in May 2008, so hopefully by then I will have saved up enough money to put down for my own place. Hopefully.

So, I did it. I’m living by myself. I love it. I hate it. It changes from minute to minute. I love that the entire place is mine. I can do whatever I want whenever I want without concern for anyone else. But at the same time I miss people. I get lonely a lot. I spend a lot of time trying to be around people. Its hard. But worth it. So many people think that I won’t make it six months there. I am out to prove them wrong. I can keep my own company and enjoy it. Its just different.

And thats ok.

Finally moving in to an excellent place just off the meadows in edinburgh on saturday – cant wait!
