These past few days have been trying but I’m all done. Today I finished my last 9 hours!
Overall I loved the work I did and knew it was a great way to spend my volunteer time and it’s also right up my ally of what I want to do in the future.
These past few days have been trying though. Things were not going smoothly at all these past few days. I found out that I needed to make a totally new project for coach art at 7:30 and I didn’t find out the specifics until 10 pm. I stayed up till 1 getting ready for it and taking care of some other things and I was supposed to wake up at 6 to finish it but I overslept till 9 and was and hour late for my morning volunteer thing. This caused my hours to fall short by 15 min and I really wanted to finish by today. But the supervisor was cool and gave me credit for those 15 minutes. And then I did 3 more hours of volunteer work at a different place and winged the project a bit but this was the one that had the last minute change and overall it turned out pretty good. I was stressing out on the last minute change and focusing how I hated surprises like this and thought it could never be as good as something I’ve been planning for a few weeks. But I lost sight of my creative abilities and my ability to adapt. The activity was pretty good for what it was. (Impressionistic portraits/other things with tempera paint)
I feel relieved because I’m way closer to graduating. If all goes as planned I should have my diploma in a few weeks (there’s a reflection essay and other requirements that I need to finish.) 80 hours seemed so daunting at first but once I started volunteering with free arts for 6 hours a day, they whizzed by. 4 years ago

Yup. I’ll be done this Wednesday, October 17th. My cramming worked! After that I’m going to continue to volunteer but just with a less hectic schedule. 4 years ago

I’m officially cramming to get my hours in but I finally was able to get a hold of this other organization I’ve wanted to work with (http://www.freearts.org/commitment.cfm) And I’ll be working with them 14 hours a week plus coachart (about once a week) on top of that. October is going to be very busy but I really would like to get this done so I can get my degree. I do enjoy volunteering but on top of classes and music lessons and a slice of social life it makes for a pretty busy month. When this is all finished I’ll still volunteer but probably a little less than I’m doing now so I can be in balance with my life and still have some time to rest. I’m glad I’m doing my volunteer hours for causes I really believe in and enjoy though. It hardly seems like work to me.
I was a little stressed out about not being able to finish my hours and was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to find another organization that I enjoyed. But I’m very relieved now. 4 years ago

right now, I’ve finished 37 hours….
that means I have 43 to go in about a month.
Luckily I have a few more coach arts (9 hours worth not including project prep time), and I’ll be working at a school in an art class, a music class and a reading group. so hopefully that will add up. Plus it does take time to put together these coach art projects so I’m really hoping this will work. 4 years ago

I’m stressing just a bit because one of the organizations has not gotten back to me and I’m having trouble getting enough hours with coachart. I’ve tried contacting a band teacher too and I haven’t heard back from them. I’m still looking around for enjoyable ways to get more hours. 4 years ago

Free Arts for abused children: http://www.freearts.org/
CoachArt: http://www.coachart.org/
I believe in both of these causes and am really enjoying it. It’s also right in line with a few of my career goals too. 4 years ago
