get my work life in order

I have finally found the ideal (for me anyway) Task List Program. It is called ToDoList and from AbstractSpoon Software. And it is free (CC Attribution Share-Alike 2.5). It is straightforward but allows the needless complexity that makes me happy sometimes. All tasks can have sub tasks, there are priorities and levels and colors and … well you get it. PS: You can turn most of that off if it is not something you like.

life could always be more orderly. so this goal needs to be more specific to be really helpful.

Did a couple of deferred projects yesterday and now have a stretch of time without many scheduled deadlines. With gratitude for the reprieve – catch up, planning and prep, are my intention.

putting books and papers in my office in order. don’t miss the piles one bit. and being able to look across at the sorted bookshelf is brilliant.

When things are going well I get stuff done and seem to make real progress. The problem is that it is way way too easy to not get stuff done around here. People goofing off, unimportant things that fill up your days, management issues, staff issues, student problems, weather, dental work, etc.

Gotta get more focused and more efficient!

To eliminate the meetings my boss wants. They are a waste of time!

at the end of the day. Even if it just means putting undone stuff into a neat pile. it’s actually a significant effort. But so far, feels much much better. And startles colleagues.

now if I could only get our office’s calendar to sync with the rest of the institute’s we’d be in business. though I’m not sure why this is my responsibility…

and sorted, filed or tossed a good 50% of the stuff on my desk. some surface area emerged. to do list got longer (or at least more clear).

time to go back and face it again today.

Oh my. Apparently it has now become my lab meeting!
