It has been about two years since I first went to a monastery. My wife and I are now oblates there.
Most people who visit monasteries do not become oblates. That’s OK, monasteries are great places for a peaceful time of thinking and prayer — who wouldn’t enjoy that?
If I could give any advice on the attitude to take with you on your first visit, it would be that monasteries are places where you will find ordinary people. Relax in being yourself. Monks, nuns, and sisters are just like you.
Listen with the ear of your heart.
